AUTO INDUSTRY REPORT: Honda recalls Accords

February 2, 2005

Honda Motor Co. recalled 486,659 Accord sedans and other cars to fix an ignition flaw that can allow the vehicles to roll after they are parked and the key is removed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday that the recall covers some 1999-2002 Accords, as well as 1999-2000 Accord coupes, all 1997 through 2001 Prelude coupes and some 1999-2000 Acura TLs.

No accidents or injuries were reported in connection with the recall.

About 15 months ago, Honda recalled more than 650,000 cars, minivans and SUVs to fix the same problem. NHTSA received complaints in October that additional vehicles could have the problem and asked the automaker to investigate, according to the recall letter.

There were 169 complaints, 28 incidents and three injuries in the prior recall.

It happens.  Every manufacture has bean counters.  There are Monday's and Friday's at every plant.
