All, please read this and donate for a good cause!  I am sending in $50 today, and will be donating more if a certain amount is not met by whatever date Barnacle Bill set.

From Barnacle Bill's:

Christopher is a little 12 year old boy that lives ar the end of my road. he was born with a hole in his heart and underwent 4 major surgeries when he was just weeks old. during one of the surgeries he had a disabling stroke . he can walk but he can't run. he can't talk but he can sign language. his right arm is only 10% as his right leg. he loves nascar racing. he has 3 younger brothers that love him dearly and help him all they can. christphers parents are in their late 20's . his father works 2 jobs and his mother is a teacher's aid at the local school . they are active in their church youth groups and his father is working to become a minister. christopher now had a rare blood disorder. they removed his spleen last year but they just can't find out what is wrong. his white blood cell count is so low and his immune system so impared he can no longer go to school . needless to say all this has wrecked havoc on the families finances. I can't watch this young father carrying his son in his arms or the care the rest of the family shows for him without a tear coming into my eye. I just found out this morning that they had to let their car go back when the lease was up. they are using a loaner from her parents. I want and need to do something for them. I want the wera family to help me. I could just make a donation but i can take that same money and buy materials for a new custom suit . I did this for the airfence fund . help me do this for christopher and his family . every single penny of your 5 dollar donation will go to this family. I think enough of you know me to know this is true. I would think just send in your donation along with your name and address and phone number which will go into a general drawing and darethea can pick the recipient of the new suit right after the first of the year and then the details can be worked out then. it just feels like the right thing to do . I would really like to have a least a 1000 people donate and get into the pool. input is appreciated . I plan to do something even if this is a no go. tell me what you think. emails and phone calls are appreciated. I AM BARNACLE BILL my email is barnacle@kyol.net my phone number is 859 336 7375 moderator if you have a heart you will stick this thread up at the top of the list. thak you all for your time. as always the best to all. barnacle bill and darethea

I personal don't have a paypal or credit card account. I figured just send in payment through the mail . put your name address and phone number on a 3 X 5 card maybe? and put attention for Christopher on it. a check or any other instrument like that will be fine (make the checks out to " barnacle bill's christopher fund "). it will all be keep documented and I can probably even get pictures of christopher and his family and the results of the help they recieve. they are good people and deserve it and will appreciate it. my mailing address is

Can a moderator make this a sticky? What a way to give in the true sense of the word this Christmas season!!! Even though WERA is CCS' mortal enemy  ;D I am sure racers can afford to give $5 out of their tire fund for next year  8). Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I considered making this a sticky.....

.... but where does it end?

Christopher is not the only one that needs help.  There are many, many others; children with debilitating diseases, families who have lost everything, and those who have suffered tremendous loss.

We should not reach out to those in need just because we see a post on the BBS, we should be doing this in our everyday lives.  Also, our charity and love for our fellow man should not be measured by our purse strings.

I work for a giving organization, every month in fact everyday, I read in our internal newsletter the next cause that we are undertaking.  Matching funds, automatic deductions from my check, fund raisers, collections, volunteer time.  Still after all this, I still give to the Salvation Army at just about every kettle I see.

Perhaps I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, but the more I give, the more I'm asked to give.  If the members of the BBS would like to respond and keep this on the front page, that's fine.  If Dave would like to make this a sticky, I'm fine with that too.  However I chose not to because I give, as I am sure many others, in different ways.  After a while it just gets to be too much.

Dawn,
It doesn't end. Oh, that was a rhetorical question, right?   ;)  I understand your overwhelmedness at this time of year.

Speaking just for myself, a few more bucks out of my pocket won't be missed by me and collectively it appears this will have a very big impact on this family.  Even if the money goes away in medical bills and they never see a penney, they'll know that a lot of people care when they're down and there may come a time when that means everything to them.

And it felt good to give. Simple as that.  :)

Looks like they're on page 14 and over $5,000!

It's wonderful to see the generosity of people.....

Perhaps I should set up a pay pal site for a family who I support and care for.  This is their story:

Just like Christopher's family above, this story starts off with a couple having a child at way to young of an age.  They "did the right thing" by getting married.  Life, while still a struggle, was going OK and they had another two children together.  Their second child, a son (who was born 6 days after Renee) became very ill as a toddler.  The doctor said to them that even though he was very ill, only 4% of these cases ended in death.  In this child's case, he was one that died.

Losing a child is devastating for a parent, it is very hard to work through the grief.  Some parents can do it, others can not.  The mother received counciling while the father refused to go.  They had another child together, but this could not fill the emptiness left in the father's heart of the child that died.

The father ended up losing his job, would not do anything to help himself, and continued to blame the mother for the death of his son.  The mother, needing to take care of their three children knew this was not a good situation to raise thier family tried to convince the father to get counciling, prayed for him constantly, and tried patience and understanding to pull him through this.  However, nothing worked and they ended up getting a divorce.

So here's a single mother of three, making it on her own.  The father works part time once in a while, has no health insurance, and now sees the children that he has fathered as a burden, not his own flesh and blood.  So any child support the mother receives is extremly minimal.  The apartment that she lives in only has two bedrooms, one for the two girls and one for the son, the mother sleeps in the living room.

Then, their first born daughter got sick (don't ask me what she had, I can't remember).  The doctors stated that she would need a kidney transplant by the time she was 16.  Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated so quickly that at age 14, she need the transplant, or she was going to die.  The two grandmothers, an aunt and the mother was tested to see if any would match the daughter (the father refused to be tested).  The aunt was a match, however not as good of a match as the mother.  So, a little over a year a go, both the mother and the daughter had surgery.  While I wish to say everything went smoothly, it didn't, but today things are looking up for the daughter.

This mother has been through a LOT.  I know that she feels that life has continually beat her down at every turn, so when a very charming man entered her life, she was very happy.  As an outside person looking in, I was reserved about this man, but everything seemed to be going OK.  In a moment of weakness, she got pregnant.  After two months, that charming man was gone.

Well the child was born.  A beautiful little girl with big brown eyes and dark curly hair.  This charming man, after dumping the mother while she was pregnant came back.  It was not a good situation.  Now that he had something over the mother, and he forced her into a relationship while still having relations with his current girlfriend.

With the support of her family and friends, the mother stood up and told this man "NO".  This resulted in her getting spit upon in the face and shoved all over the room.  She came to work with bruises on both arms like you would not believe.  Fortunately, she did get a restraining order on him.

Now, she is a single mother of four with one daughter on anti-rejection medicine and her new born daughter....  has a heart condition that the doctors are closely monitoring.

My whole point of this story is that a person does not need to look very far to see someone in need.  This BBS could be filled with stories like this.  If a person wants to post, no problem.  But it should not be expected of anyone that they need to contribute nor should anyone be looked down upon because they did not contribute the one that is posted.

So just because we can't help of the whole world, we shouldn't help that family?  No offense, but that's nonsense.  People are doing something that is making them feel good, and that is going to make a big difference in that family's life, at least temporarily.  What's the downside?

QuoteWhat's the downside?

There are millions of people that need help for one reason or another.  You can't always help everyone although I'm sure 100% of us want to.  Choose your way of helping and stick with it.  That's all you can do.

WERA's way outclassed us on this one.
/quote]

The CCS/WERA crap is ridiculous.  It's not a contest right now so no one has been "outclassed".

If people want to give then great!  It doesn't matter what BBS your on, club your in or whatever.

You can't help everyone, that's just the way it is, but when you get that chance, in anyway at all, what will you do?  Donate?  Be a big bother/sister?  Volunteer somewhere?  Doesn't matter.  If it feels good to you, if you think it's something you should be doing, then do it.  Your not going to get a pat on the back, that's not what it's about.

Understand the reason for the season.

This is just a small way the internet MC community is helping this holiday season.

Seems like a good thing to me.

Hope they have a great X-mas.

QuoteSo just because we can't help of the whole world, we shouldn't help that family?

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear in making my point.  I felt some pressure to make this a sticky and put it on top of the board.  My point is this....

There are many, many people who need help.  If anyone on this BBS wants to share their story and ask for donations - absolutely, I encourage that.  However, I will not make every post about a family in need a sticky so that they are on the top of the list.  This BBS could be filled with them.

Some comments by others gave the impression because we did not donate, we were...  less compassionate than others.  I was simply trying to point out that because we chose not to donate to Christopher does not mean that we don't contribute in other ways.

Does that help explain where my heart is?
