K3 Chris Onwiler

I guess for me it would have been watching Ike crash at Barber.  I flew down the hill on my mountain bike to where he had landed, and from what I saw, I pretty much knew he was dead.  For just a moment, I clearly saw how stupid and pointless all of this macho racing BS really is.  It felt like you could have tapped me with a little hammer, and I just would have blown away in a puff of dust.
Ike woke up.  As they loaded Ike in the ambulance, he asked me to see about fixing his bike, because he'd be right back.  I didn't tell him then that his bike no longer existed, and I could see that he wouldn't physically be able to ride for a good long while, but at least I knew that he was going to be allright.
An hour later I was racing....
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"
