I caught a commercial the other night that just blew mw away.  Picture tha scene.  This guy has built a racetrack in his cornfield.  He rolls one of those gorgeous new retro Mustangs out of his barn.  Suddenly, Steve McQueen is there.  Steve takes the keys, and tears off down the racetrack in the Mustang.
Of course I was on my feet at this point, punching the air and screaming "Hell Yeah!  Rock the %$#@ on!"  (My wife has given up trying to understand me....) I never really approved when they began inserting deceased movie stars into commercials a few years ago, but I figure that even Old Steve would have appreciated this one!
TV commercials have always fascinated me.  I've always wished that I could be one of the people who brainstorm the ideas for advertisement.  My all-time favorite was the Honda commercial with the CBR600 and the fighter jet.  Anyone else remember that one? I've still got a grainy old copy of it on video tape. ;D
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

I really like the new Mustang commecial with Steve McQueen.  Although I would have liked to see the car 'pushed' just a little harder.

Paul and I are having a debate of the body style of the new 2005.  While the '69 Stang is one of my FAVORITE cars, I'm really not sure about the new '05.  I really loved my '99 GT and that body style.  I guess I would have to see one in person before I make up my mind.

I remember the commercial with the Honda and the fighter jet.  They were on an aircraft carrier.  I knew what the jet was going to do when it reached the end of the ship....  funny, they never showed the bike.   ;D

That's not the commercial I was referring to.  There was a commercial with a CBR600 and a fighter jet.  The opening shot was at sunrise, from behind at ground level.  In sillouette against the sunrise, the rider puts up the kickstand, and the taillight comes on.  Next shot is of the jet on afterburner as it rolls out to take off.  The camera keeps switching between the bike and the jet.  The bike swoops into a corner, the jet rolls onto a wingtip and dives.  The bike pops over a hill, the jet does the same at about 6 feet of ground clearence.  A camera shot through the windscreen as the bike negotiates an ess turn through a canyon, ditto the jet as it banks and rolls between mountaintops.  All the while there is thie eerie violin and brass acompanyment that reminds you of some Vagnerian opera, or possibly Night on Bald Mountain.  In the final series of shots, the jet is swooping in for landing, the bike is at top speed, then the jet drops it's wheels to the runway, followed by a shot of the bike's front tire touching down.  The music stops, the screen goes black.  You hear the wind howling, and the Honda logo appars on the screen.  Beneath, it says, "You've gotta have wings."  Ooooooooohhh....

BTW Dawn, you'll LOVE the new stang when you see it in person.  Pictures don't do the car justice.  This is the first"GOTTAHAVEIT" car from America that's come along in my adult life.  Give it about ten years, when I can get a beat up one cheap, and I WILL be getting one of these new Mustangs.

Yeah!  Me too!  But smoking tires is frowned upon by the various agencies that regulate commercials.  Bummer.
How about a recreation of the shot from "Bullit" where Steve misses a corner, sticks his head out the window to see where he's going, and cooks off about half a tire in reverse?!!!!!! :D

Don't remember the Honda commercial.

But every time I see the new GT, not the Muxtang, but the real GT..the GT40.... :o

The new Mustang...

That STILL rocks!

Had several back seat rides.

Took a GT and the V6 around a bit too.

It has not chassis resemblance to the previous model.  It's absolutely awesome.  TV doesn't do the sound of the thing justice.  When you're bangin' it at like 4800RPM's...oooh!

I always liked the Honda Valkery commercial with the speedway guy riding it....

Chris - Your written description of the Honda / Jet Fighter commercial that I never saw was exceptionally well-written. Thank you for sharing your gift for the language. It painted a perfect image in my twisted, sick, little mind.

Why thank you!  I have a novel coming out, hopefully in fall of 2005.  It is called Highside! and predictably, is all about one regular guy's experiences when he decides to try motorcycle racing.  I am also currently working on a "how to" book aimed at the newbee market.
Motorsports industry promotions?  Need a writer? ;D

Will either of these have an exciting section (maybe what to avoid?) where the reader is gridded at or toward the back, makes a spirited run to be among the top 5 then... then... FIRE 1! ;) ;D

Wonder how many Barnes and Noble's and Border's will make the mistake and throw it into the shelves marked "Counter Culture from the '60's" and "Drug Induced Alternative Lifestyles."  ;D  Who knows, you could end up on the same shelf with Timothy Leary! :o

Or Hunter S. Thompson.  What an Ahole, Hemmingway wannabe.  Someone please kill me if I ever get to be that full of myself. >:(
