First off from a police standpoint.  These cases suck to work!

You have to get a search warrant to get the info from Yahoo.  Second, where I worked it changed because you couldn't just type up a search warrant and have the judge sign it.  You had to go before a grand jury which only convenes on thursdays.  Also yahoo, hotmail, etc only hold the info so long.

Plus, there are ways around the IP address stuff of tracking it.  However, I don't want to divulge on the internet and totally educate the criminals.

Also, these cases involve interstate crimes which rely on several jurisdictions having to work together and a lot of man hours.

Plain and simple, not very likely going to catch the loser.  That's alright...what comes around goes around and he will get his judgement day!
