Jack, you bet!  You're just a phonecall away, I'll be calling you when we go out.  Sucks that we couldn't get good ice last year when we got together.

Tires... Yes, BUY THEM or have them made... Don't waste your time and $$ trying to make them yourself.

Jeff Ferdette (sp?) in Chicago makes excellent tires.  They're about $500/set if I recall correctly.

Stu (Stuie) who used to work at motosports factory makes awesome tires as well and is in the $350 range.  Basically you buy all the stuff and pay Stu to make them.  They take him about 25 hours to make!  Call Mark at Lake Country (262-547-3088) and tell him I sent you over.  Get Stu's contact info from him, and you can order your tires & studs through the shop.

As for racing?  It's mostly free fun.  There are some organized events, but I just enjoy riding free...

Thanks man! I'll definitely take you up on that. I'll get some good pics too.

What's a good newbie bike to get for ice racing?  I'd like to have the hook up like Jeff has, but I don't see myself jaunting over and picking up a new cr450.

Lots of people around here get TTR 125's or XR100's. Still a load of fun and odds are you won't get hurt if you go down.

It's kind of fun to jump from the CRF450 to the XR100. With the XR you have to be very precise with the throttle and try not to spin up the rear tire or you will end up standing still. Cornerspeed is the name of the game on the little bike. With the CRF, you can mess up and just power out and you won't lose so much ground.

What do you have for a pitbike?  XR's of all shapes & sizes (down to 50's) are popular.  Personally I prefer a 4 stroke to a 2 stroke, but they both function well on the ice.

I said the same thing...  Then I rode a 450...  Once was all it took...

i prefer the big bikes too. i ride a yz450 and also have a ttr125l. i'm not sure i'm even going to bother putting ice tires on the TTR, since i like the violence of the 450 sooooo much.

QuoteAre you kidding me? Ice riding is just awesome. A whole bunch of people get together here in MN every sunday and go Ice riding. On January 1st, ther is a big get together that gets around 80+ people out at a lake nbearby just to have fun. It really teaches you how to slide and throttle control. I own a CRF450 and an XR100 which I stud up every winter. I personally think I like it more than Roadracing...

Here is a pic of my bikes:

And here is one of me and Gary Carter playing around:

Anybody that wants to come to MN and play, you are more than welcome to. Contact Me or Tommy Mason and we can let you know when we start riding. There are always plenty of bikes to ride.

Hey I took those pics! I will be getting ice tires soon for my CRF so I won't have to borrow any bikes this year.

Why wasnt I informed about this Edgar and to think I was calling a guy to go pick up my new snowmobile

Eric!!!,

You got a CRF? What size?

Hey Chad,

We should have some fun this year. Count me in whenever you decide to get riding. The only issue is the size of the tracks. Lot's of time, the tracks are so small it makes it hard to get going on the CRF.
BTW, Gary Carter and Mike Atlas both got YZF250's and I think Tommy is going to get one as well (at least that's the last I heard).

Maybe we should go visit Robbie up in Fargo. I think he will have ice in about a week or two...  ;D

Jeremy,

The reason you were not "informed" is cuz you suck. Go get yourself a bike and order some tires. Tommy can hook you up with Freddette's. BTW, check your PM's and call me, I need to talk to you about the GSXR...

I think I'll ship Stumpy and Johnson out your way this winter, Edgar.  If you guys do plan a Fargo trip, that would be a good time for them to meet up with you guys.  Stump needs to order up some tires for Dad's XR100--I think we're storing it for him this winter  ;D.

There's an oval ice racing series up here every Sunday in Gladstone.  A guy wants Stumpy to come ride his CRF450 sometime there.

We get great ice, but we get 3'+ of snow on top.   :P

In January-February, yes that pretty common!  Unless it's just too cold to snow.
