Has anyone taken the pro school or spoken to someone first-hand that has been to it? I'm considering taking it in Dec., but I am hesitant to spring for the $2800 before I find out how it is from someone that has been.

I worked for a team for less than that during the 2003 AMA Superbike season.

I have known some people that have went.

You get all the nice things with the school.  Food, travel between the hotel and the track, bikes, everything.

I'm sure that you will have fun.  Freddy is a very good guy and has a lot of knowledge.  Really depends upon what you can absorb.

Freddie has outstanding ideas that I also subscribe to that are very counter to what some school programs will try to get you to do.  So, how many bad habbits will you have to fix?  LOL!

It's a good amount of dough.

I've taught small schools for very small groups for less money.  I'm not Freddie, but I might have something for you too.  You never know.  I know that you never stop learning.

And if you were to go to Freddie's school, I can think of spending less for some schools that might not give you a slivers amount of value too.

That help or hurt?   :o

I know a few guys personally who have gone. I can get you email addresses so you can ask as many questions as you want.

I know someone who went.  He had a goo time and learned alot.  All 3 of the Hayden boys where in his class also.  So how much would you pay to be on the track with Spencer and all the Haydens?  Some would say that is worth the cost alone.

Super Dave

$175 will pre enter you into an AMA Road Race.

When is SuperDave's coming to SoCal!??!?  I'm looking to learn, but I cant travel to Blackhawk and I dont want to learn street/track-level stuff which is what I hear most local schools cater to.  I've heard that Spencer's is one of the few schools that has a program that is geared toward the club/pro racer.

Super Dave

I'm available currently at a cost.  Just find someplace where we can ride.  Not familiar with the S Cal tracks though.  N Cal is better for me in what I'm familiar with.

I have had schools that were geared toward current racers since 1999.

E-mail me if you want to talk more.

I'm between jobs right now and need something to do.  Should be heading to Barber for next weekend though.

THE

MONEY

!

!

!

- Three time world champ
- Personally teaches 100% of every single class
- Rides you on the back of his bike for hot laps to show you line and the limits
- Top grade, meticulously maintained equipment that is sized and prepared for each individual student
- Video tape feedback of your performance and that of every other student - you keep the tape
- A plethora of text / diagram / student materials
- Backed by proven instructors who - along with FS - coach the top athletes in the sport (Spencer :: Duhamel / Haney :: DiSalvo)
- All-inclusive deal
- Las Vegas - need I say more?

What is there to think about? Don't be penny-wise and pound foolish - spend the money. It's like buying insurance. Even if you only learn one thing, that one thing will likely be the one thing that either keeps you upright during a 'moment' or puts you ahead of your competition.

Not a slam against my bud Dave or any other instructor out there, but FS has a system goin' on. If you're at the level where you can benefit from a multi-day, non-stop pounding of information and practice that will wrack your brain and your body, then spend the money.

(Not available in Massachussets, Rhode Island or Maine. Some assembly required. Dessicant - Do not eat. Void where prohibited.)

I don't doubt those other programs and expensive race schools are fantastic... but sometimes I wonder.  2 really fast local guys here (Brian Hall and Jesse Janisch) took the Pridmore school a few months ago at Gingerman... and from what Brian said, he wasn't all that impressed.

One thing to consider about these big schools that coach folks like the Haydens, etc... they work with those guys a LOT.  Not just on a 1-weekend deal.  Which helps a LOT - the instructors learn how to communicate with each student individually.  Each person learns differently.  If I'm trying to coach my teammate (not that I really "coach" him as he can kick my arse on the track...) I talk to him differently than I would, say, my other racing buddy Mike.  I know what to say to him to get him in the right mindset.

I honestly think that you'd get just as much out of a GOOD "local" school (such as Visionsports) as you would a big name-brand school.  Just because Dave is "local" doesn't mean he's not fast.  Trust me, everybody in the Midwest that's raced against Dave knows that he can go REALLY fast when he wants to.

Heck, you'll probably benefit more from Dave than us Midwest folks, being that you're in Cali.  He doesn't have to worry about giving away his secrets to you, since you're not competing against him every weekend  ;)

If I had the cash to blow, and nothing better to do, I'd take an expensive school just for the heck of it.  But if I were serious about racing and learning, I'd try to look for the best "bang for your buck" - and invest the rest of the money on track time.

I have taken two of Freddie's schools in the past and they were exceptionally well run...but the Vegas track they usually use is the infield of the Motorspeedway...which sucks!  For that kind of money, I want a good instructor, and good bike, and a venue that is exceptional...for all those you should go with Kevin Schwantz...I have and it was an overall better experience than Freddie's!
