I feel for you.

I would have wanted to pull it myself.

Glad you ended up okay Brian.  You definatley looked weak on Sunday.

I'm just glad that it was your shoulder and not through your visor.

I would have puled it myself once I figured out what it was. Anyway dude you did the right thing by going to the hospital, but I still don't think all that angiogram stuff was for your benefit as much as it was for the doctors malpractice. In the good ol' days you know the doc with the cig hanging out of his mouth would have just grabbed it patted you on the ass and told you to be careful out there. Times sure are changing.

Just so you know, I'm needle phobic, and your report made me nice and woozy.  :( ::)
I'm glad you're ok. See? Look at all the nice cool pics you'll have to show everyone who might not believe your story. Too bizarre.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

So would you faceshield have stopped that if it hit your face, instead of your shoulder - ouch.  :o

motomadness

You still raced!!!!

Ironman for sure.  Stay healthy.  Glad you're ok.

You sound like my teammates. They were looking for hammers. j/k

Seriously though, you never want to do that. If it had been plugging an artery or vein, pulling it out would have been very bad. Lots of blood loss externally and/or internally. I didn't think it would take so long at the hospital though. I expected to be back at the track in a couple hours and wanted to get back out there to freakin learn which way to turn (first time at this track).

Thanks for all the well wishes folks. I appreciate it.

Cornerman

This is why after an accident in a turn you see us picking up all those bits and pieces of debris even those tiniest of things. Corner Workers should take note!!! I'm glad you are ok. Did that belong to you? :o :o :o

I've been in the radiology profession for many years now....and seen lots-o-weird sh it, but talk about getting nailed!
great story man...I would consider getting an MRI or at least an arthrogram of your shoulder to rule out any other joint damage.
Sorta like those stories you hear about tornadoes and drinking straws puncturing tree trunks.

Hope your leathers are OK  ;)

In the early 90's, we raced the AMA stuff at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Pretty dumb.  On yeah, there was a multi chicane section that used haybales.  That was fine until you started hitting them and everyone behind was looking for cover.  The final year, '93 I think, they used nails to hold down 2x4's on the track.  That's where we were supposed to go, between the boards.  If you screwed up, you had to ride over the boards.  When you went over, the board would pull up...either leaving the nail sitting in the pavement or shooting it out.

Iron man?

LOL!

Ok, Dale Quarterley was missing a pinky finger.

He raced a Bimota DB1 one year in the AMA's BOTT.  He crashed and his clip-on smashed his pinky and kind of ground it down and off.  So, off they went to the hospital to do those hospital things.  Doctors looked at it.  They offered to reattach it, but it wasn't going to work.

Dale, being the utilitarian guy that he was, took the finger and tossed it in the trash.

On the way out, they stole some tongue depressers.  They used them to make a splint with a cut up glove so that he could keep racing...LOL!

Some where I saw a picture with him (he was 6'3' too...kind of big on a bike) coming out of the last turn at Laguna with a bunch of guys...big sticks hanging out of his glove...LOL!

The nail is pretty awesome.

You did keep it, I hope!
