money, money, money, money....................money!!!

That why.
He wouldn't be doing it just for kicks. That wouldn't make good business sense. He sees an untapped resource.

I think whatever publicity MJ brings will be good.

Eventually, and in some way, it will trickle down to the club level. Whether you see it directly or not. Whether it makes you getting a sponsor easier, or just adds 10 new racers and 20 of their friend to the mix to spread the word.

I mean... also.. look at all the top $$ sponsors.. who do they mostly sponsor... us club guys or the pros? Sure, maybe he can have his winning team, and what, sponsor a club race? But what good will that club race sponsorship do for him, us, and the sport?

  Smoke,

I was speaking on the fact that "Road Racing" is NOT a "COMMON" term...
You can say nascar or nhra and the general public knows what you're talking about, and if you say (only) " I race motorcycles" they either think you are talking about drag racing, or "flying around the expressways through traffic with your buddies"...
(and even motorcross)...
I carry a picture around with me, and it's not just becuz it's a SWEET shot  ;D...
EVEN 3/4's of our (now) 200 + member bike club  (SPORTbikes) needs to see a photo to know what form of racing I'm speaking of...

I FULLY understand your point, and do not disagree with you in ANY way! I SUPPORT your idea whole heartedly! WE NEED MORE SPONSORED RACES with PAYING purses! NO doubt.....
And I guess I  was thinking more from looking beyond the surface, and seeing where we together take advantage of the advertising, entertainment and the "attention grabbing" value that "CELEBRITY" status brings...
I'm personally looking to bridge more attention to the roadracing community from my ties to the streetbike/motorsports club. and being in Chicago, it "helps" any and everything to say "MJ" is interested in it...

I was only mentioning that I think the road racing community can use any and all celebrity interest we can get...   and it will be good for us all when we get more fans to the tracks because "theoretically" thats what brings more sponsors...

sorry, but that's all I've got ($.02)  ;D
40. Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, but powerful beyond measure. We were all meant to shine, as children do. When our light shines, we liberate others.

I agree with Ike on the picture carrying, I have (2) small proofs (from BFR and Daytona) that I carry with me at all times. Those pictures speak for themselves and usually spark some great conversations, especially when people see that you've raced at Daytona (since Daytona is synonymous with NASCAR most 'other people' can relate somewhat ;)). Most people that I speak with think of moto-x when I mention racing, which I imagine is because it recieves so much TV exposure. Something I have noticed is that people not involved in our sport will generally watch in awe when Motorcycle Road Racing is on the TV at a restraunt, or a store, or happpens to be stumbled onto when someone is flipping thru the channels. Most people I talk to can't believe that you can get a motorcycle leaned that far over without falling and are blown away at the speeds reached at some tracks.

The lack of advertising/knowledge of road racing is definately a factor in the popularity of our sport. I have lived in the same county as BFR my entire life, yet I never knew that it existed (and that motorcycle road racing happened there) until after I had been riding a motorcycle for about 4 years, by that time I was 23 years old. The only reason I even learned of it was because a fellow street rider asked me if I wanted to go spectate and I couldn't believe that it had been happening in my own back yard my whole life without ever having heard of it! Now I personally try and 'advertise' our sport thru word of mouth as often as possible and tell people were it can be spectated and how easy it is to get involved. :)

It IS all rumor at this point, BTW.

I talked to one of 2 people who would know the scoop today.

I do know Tez should be riding next year. As far as others, if any, is still up in the air, and who that would be is totally up in the air. (Edgar, the rumor you heard won't be true because I think one of them already signed again with his current team)

Don't know bikes next year either.

So, honestly, no one knows at this point.
