I'm looking for some information on flat track and ice racing in the midwest/great lakes area. I want to get into some of this racing. I live in Northern Illinois and I'm curious how much of this kind of racing goes on and how hard it is to get into. Whatcha guys know about it? Who do I need to talk to? What are the sanction or club names? Where are the tracks? QUESTIONS QUESTIONS QUESTIONS!  ;D

Thanks Guys,

Sincerely,

Nick

Theres a lot of racing that goes on in wisconsin for ice racing, but its always better to get into "ice riding" instead because of way better track time......I go out on Beaver Dam Lake every weekend saturday and sunday.  The most we had out there is about 50, which is a lot of people.  We don't race on the lake but always have a blast racing each other neways.  If u only wanna get into racing theres racing at lake koshcekong lol i can't spell it, i can get you in contact with a different guy otherwise.....shorty_132jaj@hotmail.com - just shoot me a e-mail, i cant really do much while im hear at school.

Ice racing...

Well, do you REALLY want to pay to race in an organization?  You can ride for free just about anywhere, and get a bunch of people together for ad-hoc races?

The ice racing would be cool or just ice riding, but I really want to hear about the Flat track racing around here. Who races flat track or where does this go on. I was talking to Dean Hagaman at one of the BHF events and he said theres alot of Flat Track racing in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. WHO? WHAT? WHERE?  ??? ;)

I heard that they are enforcing some ban for kids under 16 being restricted from riding on lakes? I guess it is a Wisconsin law that has been on the books, but now people are enforcing it for ice racing?

Anyone know how that is coming. I have a couple kids who want to bring their bikes and develop some skills this winter .........  :'(

I was at lake Kashakong last winter and I saw a shit load of little kids riding bikes and quads out on the lake. Call the DNR, I'm sure if they are accompanied by a parent it should be OK.

I mean, a kid with his parents can drink bear legally in a bar in wisconsin, why they hell couldn't they ride there bike on a lake with there parents to.

HA HA, Drink beer with dad and then go ride there motorcycle on a frozen lake. NOW THATS MIDWESTERN WISCONSIN LIVIN  ;)

Drink bear  :D Sorry. I know it was a typo, but it made me laugh.

Ice riding is way more fun.  Less organized...easy.

We ride little bikes at http://www.sportsmanspark.net just outside of Lake Geneva...  TTR125's XR100's TTR90's...anything.  Not as big of a track like Jesse rides on up at the Dam, but the bikes aren't as fast.

Cost?  Small bike is good for a budget, and can double for a pit bike.  The bigger bike is a bigger investment, but if you can use it for something else...

Doing big slides like Jesse does in top gear on a CRF450 is a bit different than doing the same thing on a TTR125.  Each has value.  If you can figure out how to go fast on the big bike, it translates down to the little bike.  You can learn how to do things the wrong way on the small bike, and continue to do that on the big bike.  It's tricky.

As for the laws, you really need to investigate them.  Motorcycles aren't regulated the same way snowmobiles and quads are.  The lawmakers never thought they'd have dirtbikes running in the winter on ice...  Some local communities are passing a 10mph speedlimit on their lakes, or within x-hundred feet of *anything* (ice fishermen, ice shanties, shore, other vehicles, etc).

there is no way that swira is gunna put some kinda age limit on there racing since the guy that does most of the stuff for it has a kid thats 15 and races the stuff.  as for the flattrack stuff, district 16 is all in wisconsin, look at a cycle news and you can get the dates, otherwise like i said, e-mail me and i can you a number.  illinois racing is district 17.

Tom Gimmer at Sunset Tavern on Lake Koshkonong outside of Ft. Atkinson, WI has a flat track series and a small ice road course program in Jan. and Feb.

We also have the Steel Shoe Fund 3 hour ice endurance race every winter at the same place.
