Slicks

Thinking about using them for Barber and looking for opinions on them.  

Worth it?
Longer or shorter life before getting greasy?
Anything else you guys want to throw in. :)

From what I remember, the Pirelli slicks are very similar to their DOT's, both in size and longevity. You get just a bit more grip and a tad less wear.

Here is my opinion.

Bridestone. Slicks ore their only option. Theu grip better and longer than the DOT tires do.

Michelin Slicks are the better way. Lower lap times and better wear. They also have a new DOT tire this season that is a very similar to the Slick so that if you change from on to another for different races they do not require much if any suspension adjustment. I have run them and really liked them.

Hope it helps. I can generally run1 to 2 seconds faster on slicks at a given track depending on the brand.

gpracer is 99% right. For Michelins, the "new" tire is a slick on a DOT carcass so that you do not have to change setup, while maintaining the DOT price point. The slick lasts a bit longer and has better grip.

The regular commercial slick that Michelin uses has a different carcass than the DOT. I personally like the 1200 front (DOT carcassed slick) with a regular 1875 slick rear. I haven't run the Michelin DOT's in a while though since my bike is not SS legal.

Actually, let me rephrase that. The one's that are using the DOT carcass are priced the same as the DOT's. The other ones are more expensive.

My experience with pirelli slicks... I usually run their DOT's.

More grip, turns better a little better, lasts a lot longer. If I could run them all the time I would. No setup changes needed.

It should drop up to second off your time.

Thanks for the info Chuck and everyone.  I'll look into them at Barber. Seems like I can run them in 3 out of 4 classes, GT, GP and SB in CCS and in SB in FUSA.  Basically it doesn't say anything about running dot tires in those classes.  Am I assuming correctly?
