How many times do we have to watch races where it takes too long for CCS to red flag a race and watch the incident worsen before they red flag an event?  I think that there should be a couple of  cases where the red flag should be thrown automatically for safety sake.  The 2 cases are

1) Rider down on the track
2) Bike down on the racing surface

Last time out at Blackhawk for example, we watched a packed amateur race that had a bike down laying in the middle of the track that was directly in the racing line and no red was thrown for an entire lap!  The leaders swerved around the bike on the second lap before the flag was finally thrown.  It should be simple to identify these 2 cases as high risk and I think the corner workers should immediatley red flag a race and then radio the tower.  Yes, CCS may be able to get the bike off the track after several more bikes pass, but at what safety risk to the riders?  Just my thoughts.  Anyone?

I'd like to add oil on the track too! At Pocono the flag wasn't thrown till the 4th bike pilled in on the last lap. There was alot of confusion on scoring and they did score it properly. I was just glad it was turn 3 and not 1, could have been real ugly. The debris flag isn't all that informative for oil.

I do agree with what you have said but being a corner worker also, we can't throw a red flag all we can do is ask for a race stoppage from control it is their call. Both situations that you talk about are very dangerous to all other riders and to the rider that has fallen, I was first hand witness to what happens when a rider is hit by another rider, it isn't pretty. So yes there should be no doubt on when to throw the red flag.

Brent,
I hit Lemont's bike in turn four at Gateway after water got splashed on the track.  All the racers watching from the pits were screaming to red flag the race and Lemont told me he was yelling at them about the water that had been splashed up during the race.  The whole time Lemont and three cornerworkers are standing with the bike right smack in the middle of a seriuos crash zone.  NO RED FLAG OR DEBRIS FLAG!  Waving yellow only.  I was trying to be cautious, but water, slicks, and an obstructed view put me down lowside in a hurry.  I slid and spun directly into Lemont's swingarm and rear wheel.  In the 1.5 seconds it took me to reach the bike I thought I was going to die or never walk again.  I took the brunt with my back protector but My back is still all messed up.  Ouch!!!  Just because I didn't die or go to the hospital doesn't mean this or other incompitence should go unnoticed.  We as racers need more protection.  The attitude towards are safety is too reactive.  We need to be, excuse the cliche, proactive.  NO MORE PREVENTABLE INJURIES!!!!! NO MORE PREVENTABLE INJURIES!!  WE NEED TRAINED CORNERWORKERS AND RACE OFFICIALS THAT GIVE A S#!T!!!!!!  LlET'S GET THE BALL ROLLING. i AM WITH YOU ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AND SORRY IT TOOK AN ACCIDENT TO WAKE ME UP.        Carr #150 998ducati
