From what I can decipher, all licenses expire on Dec. 31st, right?  So if I want to sign up for next year, do I wait until January?

If you want a special # the earlier you get in your app.  the better you are .if your not renewing ,you  can just get it at the next race you go to.

This would be a brand-new license/membership. I hope to start racing in 2003.  :D

I took the school bought my licence and raced all in the same weekend.

If there are any events left this year, go to one and take the new racer school.  You can't get a license until you do this.  If you wait until next year you'll lose out on half the first weekend while you take the school.  You can take the school now and get your license next year.  You don't have to buy a license immediately after the school.

I did STAR school this past June.  I was under the impression that it would qualify me for a license?  Or do I still need to take the new rider school?  TIA

I don't believe the STAR schools qualifies.  They don't cover the racing specific procedures like gridding, starting boards, flags etc.

I think the CCS website lists the approved schools but if you have a question send an email to Kevin Elliot.

90% sure STAR does but CLASS does not.
It may depend on which level you take though.
Ah don't listen to me ask Kevin

I'm trying to start racing next year also! If you hear of any schools left this year, could you (or any body else) let me know? Thanks!

The "CCS Competition License Requirements" page lists STAR.  We didn't learn gridding or starts, but learned basic flags (the rest I know anyway).  I'd probably take one of the Saturday schools anyway next Spring just to brush up and make sure I know all I need to know.  I'd just like to go ahead and get the license and be "in the loop".   ;)
