YEs, they allow camping but charge for it (some small nominal fee like $10).  But get there BEFORE 11:00pm, and remember that if you're coming from IL/WI or points West, that the track is in EDT...

I don't know the dates of last year's race, but South Haven, in addition to being a favorite w/e getaway for many from the Chicagoland area, has a Venetian Festival too.  That could have been what you saw down by the harbor.

Semi sad news for ya Grasshopper.  The Blueberry Festival is the 2nd w/e of August :'(   But there are a lot of farms (blueberries, blackberries, apricots, apples, broccoli ::), etc) for you to stop by and pick ;)

Another place to absolutely avoid is the EconoLodge (formerly Budget Lodge) at M-140 Hwy in South Haven.:P

You may as well be in field conditions as pay to stay there. :o
