I am wondering how reliable my battery is going to be during a sprint or especially during a GTU race.  I have a cbr600rr , no charging system and a yuasa yb4l-b which is rated at .4A and has a capacity of 4... I assume that is amp-hours but it doesn't specify.  I have drained it twice breaking in the motor, but I hadn't tended to it either.  The bike has an aftermarket tach, so the stock lcd wont be draining the battery.  Anyone with experience or expertice here, your opinion would be much appreciated, this will be my first time racing without a charging system and I don't want any headaches.

I removed the charging system on the Buell but not the starter. I have found that if you put a charge on the battery for a little while before and after your races, it should be fine. I do several back to back races and I haven't had any problem what so ever. Granted... my battery is relatively new. Hope this helps a little. Mark.

See if you can find a "gell cell" battery.  It will last longer in the long run. Someone makes a very light weight, small (smaller than production unit) battery, that is a gell cell.  Can't remember who though.  I'll look around and see if I can find it.

thanks for the help.  I tried to dyno the bike with a fully charged yb4 and it couldn't even cover one pull.  The stock battery did ok from what I could tell, so I came to the conclusion that you can either a)run the stock charging system w/ a lighter battery or b) run the stock battery with no charging.  Weight savings with the two options was IDENTICAL ,of course the stator removal would generate a smidge more hp, but I opted for reliability and stuck with option a.  I think option c) HRC stator is the best ;)... not sure that is supersport legal , though.

I guess I look at this from a reliablity stand point.

Even in FUSA where HP is measured, the guy with the most HP doesn't always win.  It usually goes back to the most important thing...set up.

Maybe you're faster than me though.  You tell me.

My preference is to have a good set up with warm, fresher tires.  That should give you fast consistent laps.
