Anyone have a good source for minor bodywork repair, prep, and painting in the midwest?

ace hardware.
get a kit for $10.00 it's fairly easy
cloth & 2 part resin, hardener
 cut the fiberglass cloth to size 2 or 3 pcs.
brush or dip tho fiberglass in the the resin  ( one pc of cloth at a time)
let it set.
if you want to use filler on the ouside/ sand and paint.

you forgot the spray paint.  Looks professional if done carefully from 100' at 100mph, which is the std.

A local boat repair shop guy let me come in and learn how to do fiberglass work. I bought materials from him and he taught me the basics. I read a couple books previously, but hands-on instruction makes it really easy.

I use wax paper as a barrier and cardboard for the form to patch any holes. Put the wax paper, tape, cardboard, etc on the outside and glass from the inside. When it sets, peel it off, sand, fill, sand, prime, and paint.

From my understanding, you can put polyester on polyester, epoxy on epoxy or polyester, but not polyester on epoxy. So if you have a high-end piece of bodywork, I would use epoxy. You can also get carbon or kevlar for just a little more.

I couldn't imagine hiring someone to fix my bodywork. That would get expensive fast. Get a dual-action sander and then go to fiberglasssupply.com and get some FG materials. They have end-of-roll deals on 1.5oz mat. I got a roll of 8" for about $12 that will last me forever - even if I crashed every weekend.

Ditto this and what Lowe said. Once you see how easy it is to do, you'll never pay somone to do it unless it's major damage. It's so easy, cheap and looks good. I fixed up my bodywork and painted it (w/ compressor and auto paint and clearcoat) You can't even tell it had scratches and holes.
