Super Dave

I was watching at three when it all happened.  One rider low sided early on....another seemed to push the front and go off the track but not damage himself...

Then the final crash....

Yes, it appeared to be a three bike incident.  I think he was in the middle, and got tossed the wrong way.  I wasn't looking at it directly as it happened, so I can't give numbers or anything...but there are two other racers that were "involved".  I don't think it was necessarily anyone's fault, but they might know more...

Keep us posted, and we'll all keep praying.

I also was spectating in T3 when Shawn crashed.  I feel awful that I was not able to process mentally what happened and I really don't know what occured.  As Dave said, there were two other bikes in very close proximity to Shawn.  I have no idea if they were in any way involved, but one appeared to take evasive action to avoid either Shawn, his bike or the other rider.  I remember seeing Shawn tumbling on the track on the outside of his bike and it did not look like a classic lowside to me.  I am so sorry that I am not able to tell you more.  Shawn and his friends and family are in my prayers.

T3 felt funny to me and the frequency of crashes seemed to be much higher than normal there this weekend.  Seemed like many people were losing the front.  I felt a bump at the apex that seemed new or different than from when I was there at the beginning of May.  It felt worse abut 3 feet off the candy stripes and scared the bejezes out of me when I hit it out there once.  I went to T3 after dark and rolled my flashlight around looking for shadows and there is a narrow dip that extends out into the corner perpendicular from the candy stripe near the apex.  Perhaps all the rain has changed the shape of the bump from before, but I never remember feeling it like that before and I've been through that corner quite a few times.

My pit buddy David Cross lowsided there and it spectacularly launched his TL up in the air over the tire wall and demolished the bike.

Anybody else think the bump felt new or different?

Wasn't really "new" to me, but, like we talked about at Summit, I could kind of see it on the track.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.  The tangent of a fallen rider given their turning radius at that point would probably be from the point of the bump.

Shawn is doing a lot better.  He is now concious.  and talking, still a little slow to respond and groggy, but he remembers a lot and understands everything.   Head took quite a hit, and he is on Morphine, so it will take time.  These are all positive signs.  GOt into an argument today about whether his bike was totalled.  (It isn't, but he swears it is.).  He then talked to a a fellow racer, and when that person asked him his number , Shawn said number 1. :D
That is way too funny.  I am trying to answer all the emails and PM's that I am getting.  This is just a start, but at least it is a good one.

Great news!!!  Glad to hear he is concious!

Bernie

That is absolutely fantastic news.  I can imagine he is groggy from the meds if nothing else.  Please tell him we are all pulling for his full and speedy recovery!

God bless man. . . praying for him.

Same thing happened to me last season (8/24/03 at Blackhawk - in a coma for a week, the hospital for a month and another 4 months of therapy etc.) and it will get better. Hang in there guys but he'll be back to normal soon!  ;)

My brother and I are in the Sterling area if there is ANYTHING that George needs.

Please don't hesitate to contact myself or castle228 on or off thread!

I am glad he's doing better!  The human body is a wonderous thing!  Let's pray that he stays positive and continues to heal both mentally and physically!
