Grid by points?  Why not time trials instead?

Why should we grid by points?  I say that if they're going to come up with some kind of 'gridding system' - do it with time trials.  Do it the Fridays before, during the practice day.  Set up an extra session at the end of the day - 3 laps, and grid by fastest lap time.  Those who choose not to show up on Friday for practice, will get gridded the normal way - after those who attempt to qualify.

Then you are going to run into still the same problem you have with people not having the money to pre-enter...alot of people can't get off work to be there on friday or until late that night...i know i am one of them.....depending where the race is...i can't leave till friday after work and i would miss it if it was doe that way almost everytime.. unless it was a race close to me...which now is none :-(...we don't race at RD A and the next closest to me is Talladega and we do not race there wither...so i would be screwed :-/ but it sounds good..but i would think that would have just about as many problems as the way it is now...just my $.02 ;D

Yes.  You get a gold start at the top of your book report.  well done.

I agree with GAMedic:

Almost all of the people who race at the club level support their habit by working.  Taking time off is to go racing is sometimes very difficult, if not impossible at times.

There is no perfect answer to the gridding system.  Just as everything in life, sometimes we need to learn to live with it.

besides the work thing, thats alot of extra time, which is money if you have to rent the track for another day.and you would have to get officals there.

Here is an idea..and i think i am going to make this a poll just to see what you all think....may be just as bad as anything else but i don't think i have seen it anywhere....and i know this may not be good in some cases but maybe take the lap times from the last race that person ran at that track and grid accoding to that...it would still work even if you didn't finish or wrecked the last time you were there it would still be your fastest lap you rane at any given time in your class the last time you raced there...that would not take that much more time to do and it would not cut into practice time or make us have to be there a day early....but other than qualifing it is the only other fair way it could be done...it would even be better than by points..cause even someone who is slow and racks up points by going to all the races would still be in the grid for their lap speed.....the only people it would affect would be new racers..and i am one of them and i would have no problem with this even that i might be in the very back my first race at the track well if i run good and have a good lap time i know that the next race there i would be up more on the grid.....after reading this go to my poll on it and everyone please say what you think about it..i will include a copy of this on that pol in case someone doesn't read it here..

That's not a bad idea either... but it seems CCS has a hard enough time compiling race results - now you want them to keep track of laptimes from a weekend prior?

I think the only thing we can agree on is that nobody will be completely happy.

You are right..you will never be able to please everyone...but i think this would do for alot of people...i am talking to ccs about this now..and the idea of having a few people that will keep up with this if it will work and do nothing but set up the grids i will even volunteer to do it..but we will see...i will keep you posted if it goes anywhere..and please vote...if i can get a good responce i plan on making that part of the talk with them

Here's another idea.  There are people who know and admit they shouldn't be on the front row.  They want to pre-register to avoid the hassle of doing it on race day, but they would willingly grid further back if allowed to.  How about if the pre-registration form had a check box that allowed people to opt out of the first four rows?  Most of the truly slow racers know who they are and would probably take advantage of this.  Those mid-pack racers probably wouldn't though.

Dave,
That's not a bad idea. Maybe even a couple of check boxes, opt out of first 2 rows, first 4 rows, or what ever.
For the races at VIR I pre-regged for Middleweight Sportsman because I can hang in that class. But I didn't for LTSS, LWGP, or LTSBK. I'm gonna let the guys with the SV's fight that one out.

Exactly!  You'd want the ability to opt out on a race-by-race basis.  Some races I can win, some I can't even come close.  If I had to pre-register in advance for some but not others it would defeat the purpose for me (convenience).  I really prefer not to have the added pressure of registering on race day but there are some races I'd be willing to drop back on the grid for.
