is it just me or does evertone else have problems depositing or cashing their checks in their own bank.

my check from topeka was returned to me today.

they said that the check has been altered (i.e  my name was written on the front of it in pen while the rest of the check is printed)

and that they cannot accept a check payable to a business for deposit to a personal account.
where the check says "pay to the order of"
expert unlimited gp, 8th place , is recognised as the business according to the bank.
the reason i am posting this here is because ccs never respond to any of my emails. they even put a block on one of my email accounts.

does anyone know any solutions to this problem??

my bank is citibank,
don't ever use them,

Go to WERA..they give ya CASH!!!!   :)

Oh yeah, and you are right..CCS never returned several of my emails last year or phone calls so guess what..I went to WERA this year and they seem to be MUCH friendlier, return phone calls and emails in a decent time frame (less than a few days), and the personalities of the WERA staff is great.

I had a similar problem.

Sign the back of the check...

"Unlimited GP Purse 1st Place"
"Your name here"

Do anything, put your account number on it, etc.

Obviously, they can't predetermine who's going to win, and you wouldn't want a check floating around without a name where it says pay to the order to....

If you have a good banking relationship with a banker that know you, it should never be a problem. Maybe I'm different. I wouldn't do business with a bank unless I knew someone there that can be personally responible for the banking transactions that occur at hs/her branch. I make banking much more personal.

Sorry to go O/T on you Trey, but WERA pays CASH? Thanks for the heads up. Nothing worse than traveling cross-country on credit cards when you can have cash??!!

Chuck

I'd be happy as a clam with a check...if it would cash.  I recieved CCS Credit slips for my GTU win.

Chuck, credit slips don't translate into taxable income (or traceable for those that care about that stuff)  so in my opinion it is better than cash in that respect and transferable I believe this year.  Not to hijack the post completely, your bank may be experiencing a high rate of fraud.  I have had this with Bank of America when my fiancee and I joined an account.  They would not take my work checks at first.  I went in, talked to the branch manager (nicely and asked how can we fix this), showed my work ID, personal forms of ID (two types) and also eluded to the fact that we could easliy open a account elsewhere and transfer our B of A credit card to that bank as well.  He made a few choice keystrokes into his computer (most likely 'This guy is really an ass, but cash the work checks anyway") and I have had no trouble since.  I even make it a poin to go in to perform a transaction every few weeks and say high to him.  Try it ;)

Send the checks to me.  I'll cash them for you.  The party stores in the ghetto's of Detroit will cash anything.   ;D or, attempt to use them at registration when paying entry fee's.  If they say that it's not accepted as payment, tell them "no sh$t, but you expect me to take it as payment, so you can take it too."  ;) ;D

Weird.  I bank with Citibank, and I never had a problem cashing CCS purse checks.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"
