Yikes, I guess it makes more and more sense to lock everything up tight while bike, crew, and myself are on the track? Or am I overreacting?

You are over-reacting.....    :)

In the MW, you will not find a nicer bunch of people at the track, anywhere (OK, perhaps I'm a bit biased).  Everyone watches out for everyone else while there.  Sure, once and a while, something or someone doesn't have the same standards as everyone else does, but fortunately, those individuals are few and far between.

Is it April 23rd yet....?    :-/   ;D

Well, from the embarrassingly steady flow of compliments I have recieved on this board over the last few years, I guess that I'm thought of as a pretty nice guy, and always willing to help anyone.  But like Thorny said, "be who you want to be known as."
Last year was tough for me.  I broke or crashed pretty much everything I touched.  People loaned me their bikes, parts, cash, you name it.  I came out the far side owing all sorts of money to a bunch of my friends.  It took all winter and what would have been my 2004 racing budget to get everybody paid, but the only debt I can think of now is that I owe Oldguy $20, and I probably won't see him until Wegman weekend.
I'm known for helping new guys when they first show up.  You can blame Don DeChant for that.  He became my new best friend on the day I started racing.  He didn't have to do that, but he volunteered himself for the job.  I owe what success I have had to Don and others for the help they have given me.  That is a karmic debt that cannot be repaid, so I try to pass on the same kind of help to newcomers.  Karma, man.  Good or bad.  Everyone makes a choice!
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Shucks.  I am pleased to say that I have met some of the nicest and most trustworthy people I have ever known at the racetrack. :)

Hey Bernie!  I love that line about Elvis in turn one!

And this is good too...

Hours to build, seconds to destroy...

I will agree with Bernie...do meet good people at the track.  That's part of the addiction of racing.
