AMA Pro Racing will be making an announcement TODAY regarding his antics this weekend. I have called and relayed the following:

8 March 2004

Ms. Connie Flemming
AMA Pro Racing HQ:

I understand that AMA Pro Racing will be making an announcement TODAY regarding his antics this weekend. As a racer, fan, and someone involved with other motorsports racing I am appalled that, to date, AMA Pro Racing has not taken action against the antics of Aaron Yates.

1. Yates has a history on the track of taking guys out.

2. Yates antics reflect so very poorly on AMA Pro Racing.

3. It is hard to be a fan of AMA Pro Racing when this type of stuff takes place.

4. This type of on track occurrence makes it hard to be sponsor.

5. AMA Pro Racing has a history of letting this kind of thing "slide" for the few "factory rider" and chastises privateers.

6. Yates is totally at fault for both the accident and of course his post-crash antics.

7. Yates could have seriously injured an already potentially injured rider.

8. Yates is a liability to himself, the other riders on the course, the AMA and believability of AMA Pro Racing as a sanctioning body.

Yates needs to be severely reprimanded and I suggest:

· 8 Race Ban - Without Pay from sponsors or team
· Probation through the full 2005/2006 Season
· $25,000 Fine Payable the the Air Fence Fund
· Full replacement of the other riders losses
· Public Apology to the race fans, sponsors and AMA organizers.

AMA Pro Racing needs to get a clue and take control of your environment. Now go and do the right thing!

Yates calls this an apology?

FIRST PERSON/OPINION:

Via E-mail:

Racing has extreme highs and extreme lows. It almost seems like there's no in-between when you race at the level that I do. For me, after racing 170 grueling miles, I realized that I had a chance to win the race.

With about eight laps to go, I came up on some lapped riders. I set up to pass, using the same racing line that I'd been using on this part of the track all day - in both the 200 and in the 600 SuperSport race.

I came through on the brakes on the outside and in my peripheral vision I saw a rider stand his bike up. So I got on the brakes harder and stood my bike up a bit to give him some room. But I was running out of racetrack.

We went down and were sliding toward the wall and I was honestly thinking that I was going to break both of my legs. Thankfully, the impact was softer than I'd anticipated. I got up thinking that I'd raced 49 laps with eight left to go and a second-place finish in the Daytona 200 was down the drain.

I couldn't believe that this was actually happening. But I never had any intention of hurting anyone. The last thing that I want is for people to get hurt at the track. This is not the way that I wanted to look back on Daytona '04. And this is definitely not what I want the race fans to think of when they think of me.

I'm just so sorry that the whole incident ever happened. And I'm sorry if my actions offended or disappointed anyone.

Aaron Yates

you should post a link to the article in RRW.  instead of copying the text !

porky

The thing is all of us get frustrated at times, many of us have come upon slower riders, and some have possibly crashed because of them. I myself have crashed because a novice took an outa loop line and cut back across, but thats racing. But  how many of you have had this happen only to get up and want to destroy the person that done this? Well Yates gets paid alot of money to win, plus gets bonuses for certain wins, you have to admit you'd be awful angry to run all those laps only to have one person take you out. Mind you I do think his actions were right, but frustration can have an affect on people. We were not in his shoes, some things, can't be avoided, but Yates should have taken a different course. But one has to admit , it will be one daytona we sill never forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I said eariler, I didnt copy it from RRW.

I copied it from another forum, wasnt looking for any copyrights, just looking to pass on some info that one of the people on that other forum asked to be passed on.
