Buell Firebolt in LWSS?
« on: September 02, 2002, 07:09:37 am »
I just looked at the rules again.  Why dosn't the 984cc Firebolt fit in the Lightweight Supersport anymore?  All the other Lightweight classed alow up to 1000 cc air cooled pushrod, but the limit for Lightweight Supersport is now 800cc.  I ran my stock Firebolt with all the SV's in LWSB, and the only ones I could keep up with on the straights were the Supersport legal bikes.  Actually seems like a good match to me, The SV is just about the only Lightweight bike now, why not let something else in?

Personally, I agree with you. A firebolt vs. SV would make a good matchup. In the GP or Superbike classes a tube frame Buell can out motor an SV, but the weight and handeling of an SV gets us in the corners. The underpowered, but great handeling of a firebolt should be right in line for the class as long as the motor is stock. With the firebolt now being available, I would imagine next year the rules may be tweaked. Just don't tweak your motor yet since Supersport rules are very specific.
On that thought, how many Harleys/Buells have stock air cleaners and exhaust? I guess I'll see you in LW Superbike.:)

The Firebolt was overlooked in SuperSport, we will correct that for 2003. (There will be additional restrictions for the internals, currently a SuperSport 2-valve twin allows unlimited internal modifications, not a move I am comfortable with for the Firebolt at this time.)
