On bikes with the center ram air duct and number plates on either side of it:

Why (especially with the use of transponders) can you only have one side of numbers showing?  This is just something else to worry with when you go to different tracks depending on the scoring towers location.  AMA allows both sides to be shown.  I can't see how numbers on both sides could be confusing.

Also some cornerworker stations are on different sides of the tracks from the scoring towers which would give them a disadvantage as they can't see the front numbers.

I know there are several of us racers that would like to fix their bodywork & numbers and not have to cover/remove them every other race.

For an RC at least, I put white number plate backing over the lower part of my windshield. I could then put one set of 8" numbers above the ram air duct. It was so low on the windshield that I never noticed it.

CCS has stated that the use of transponders may cause them to change their front number plate rules in the future. This will probably happen when they deem the transponders reliable enough to stop using scorers.

there is not enough room on the 03-04 zx6r above the ram air duct.... would cover too much of the windscreen...

I hope CCS will reconsider this.... I would like to know their reason why only on one side..

I think number "8" on both side could be mistaken for "88" and other single digits too. But then just look at tail section.

I would like to not remove my numbers each time go to a different track. But, having number only on one side does look cooler  ;D

Scorers use front plate cornerworkers generally use side plates.

With numbers on both sides is the big black hole in the middle a number? or is it one of the bikes that has a intake there? The issue is uniformity.
The above the intake is acceptable for all tracks; and the rule was changed last year to allow offset numbers if desired but only on scoring side. For the record the numbers can be installed above the intake on the 03-04 ZX6R/RR.

I understand the uniformity concern.  However I've never seen an intake that looks like a number and the intake should not have the yellow/white background.  My point is that if the numbers are spaced properly on the proper yellow/white plate background, I don't see why they can't be on both sides.  The scorers would only see one side and the electronic scoring is the primary.

I measured above the intake last night (03 ZX6R)   and the 8" numbers with background plate would cover all but about 4" of the windscreen.  Seems like this would be distracting and I question the safety of doing this.

Come out by the scorers at one of the events where it is accessable( check with RD and scorers prior) and try scoring you will see how numbers that are too close to each other, stylized numbers, off set numbers, double numbers, intakes, BNG that are too close to plate, and such can be distracting. The issue with bad numbers is not that you miss the bike with bad numbers but you miss the bike(s) behind him because you concertrate on that bad numbered bike to long (most scoring is done in less than 1/2 sec).

This is not to say well do it yourself or anything of that nature but if you experience what the issues with numbers are yourself you understand how important numbers are.

P.S. electronic is primary but manual is a backup that requires good looking numbers.

Here is the absolute best numbers 8 inch flat black numbers on a flat white (or yellow) background that is at least 14-18"(two or three digit)wide and 12" high,  numbers spaced 1 1/2" with numbers that have 3/4" stroke in the CCS spec'd font.
