As you know, Paul's a pretty big guy.  The poor little SV has to pull his 220+ lbs around the track race after race.....  Everyone said it was a miracle it hasn't let go.

We shared excactly how many races that the previous owner had on it and how many Paul did with the engine builder.  He figures that we had about 2-1/2 racing seasons on the motor (Ed Key's seasons as a reference).  Well, we just got the e-mail from the engine builder and here's some of the highlights.

QuoteWe have had a chance to tear down your SV-650 motor and formulated an estimate. The main and rod bearings were all through the first layer of material on the bearing and some through the second.
  :o

QuoteThe crank will be fine.
 Thank God!

QuoteAll three shift forks are worn. The clutch has had so much heat in it (possibly from the Amzoil) that the steel plates had to be extracted from the clutch basket.  I suspect with more horsepower, even with a stouter clutch, heat may become an issue with the full synthetic oils.
I really wasn't surprised by this one, the clutch was never replaced.

QuoteThe cylinder heads are always the big variable in a project such as this and are where the horsepower is made. The valves have all suffered the effects of extended high rpm use and need to be replaced.
 No surprise here either.

QuoteTransmission back-cutting is highly recommended.

As hard as Paul rode the bike, I think it did pretty good.  Plus Paul was a stickler on the maintenance.

Well, that boy better put in some extra overtime to pay for this.

Paul, I've got a very nice custom rad and oil cooler on mine and I'm 230 on a good day.  Let me no If I can help.  Mines making about 95hp and I haven't had any durability problems.

You need to drop the compression.  This will put less strain on the motor & trans, will run better on lower octanes and make me more competitive in comparison  ;D
