How it is again that CCS does the move from AM to expert?  I have 780ish points total and didn't know if that or the performance index (whatever that is) has anything to do with it.  Also, can you petition to remain novice like WERA if it is your first qualifying year?

r6_philly

anyone over 500 points will be on the list to be upgraded to EX, also anyone who has won a regional championship or finished top 5 at the ROC.

You can always petition to stay AM. Just prepare a petition letter to send in along with your license renewal, and you will receive a decision there after.

500?  Wow that is low.  Since they pay points back to 50 and have some double points weekends it seems almost impossible to not accrue that many in one season.  My points are from only 2 weekends.   What is this performance index and how is it calculated?

r6_philly

performance index is:

1000*(1 - (finishing position-1)/number of total finishers)

if you finish first, you will have 1000. If you finish last, it depend on how many people are in the race.

Yes 500 point is kind of low, especially with rising number of events, and double points events, and twin sprints events.

for 03, 96 out of 310 amateurs in Mid-Atlantic past the 500 mark. I think they should raise the bar to maybe 700 or so.

But the point is for racers to gain experience. So even if you only raced 2 weekend, you entered a few races.

It all depend on if they think going EX is an requirement or privelige.

If you got over 700 points in only 2 race weekends than you must have had  plenty of real good finishes unless they were both double points and you ran a lot of classes

Well the 500 pts to expert (according to Tiff) is in the selected classes (SS, SB, SBK, GT's). Rule book itself just says 500 pts in a 12 month period with nothing about only with certain classes.

Try this one on for size.. I raced 23 races this year in 4 different classes. 3 of the 4 classes I run in, don't count toward total points so I only have 129 total points for the season. Now, is this considered sandbagging? Out of the 23 races, 21 were top 10, and 8 of those were top 5's. I just picked my races... I didn't write the rules.  :-/

well supposely the races that don't count toward total points are considered not too "competitive". Sometimes when you race sportsman its impossible to not finish top 3 :)

So again, is the philosophy for bumping someone because they are experienced or for them being fast and competitive. Someone races 100 races in sportsman will never get upgraded, yet they are very experienced...

Just a thought.

With your points/Perf index, (787/431.4 is that you?) you shouldn't have too much a problem petitioning to stay AM. I'm petitioning with 3 weekends of race experience (1412/787.2). I was told by the authority herself that I'd be "approved". I did not win anything nor did I go to ROC. I just hope she doesn't change her mind...  :-/ or else I'm gonna get killed next year.

with over 1400 points you can stay Am.? What is the sense of even having a 500 point advancement rule then? I raced 3 weekends this year and only got 609 points with a P.E. of 848.9 and am torn about whether to petition to stay Am. or not. I want to go expert, but it is mainly a financial thing to stay Am. because if I go expert I won't be in the running for contingencies since the payouts are mostly the same and as everyone knows this game aint cheap.

Man Greg, if you don't get approved, you would be racing with me, ned, hector and a slew of others competitively.Unless I go a lot faster all of a sudden come spring,, you mean we all gonna get killed ? ::)

although, I am working on the getting alot faster thing. My arm would be able to heal more, and have great equipment next year hehe

I have rerely seen a full grid for EX ULGP and Sportbike. So there is 2 checks that is almost garanteed, unless you are real slow.

Racing EX has its rewards, I don't have to spend $$$ in Feb to get a good grid spot.

As for the AM purses and contingencies. Ya plans are always good, and you enjoy it when you are in it. But you never know what could happen during the season ... lesson learned here.
