Fun day overall at the track today. My friend and fellow rider Dr. Jeff Farrell of Chiropractic rehab Centers and Tampa Ducati/Victory just picked up a new Kawi 636 for a track bike..sweet bike, complete with ohlins/traxxion and acrop. pipe. LOTS of midrange and overall smooter power than my f4. super front brakes. He is letting me ride it at Daytona for an upcomming CCS event and was getting some seat time today. I had my reservations about going out on the H2 michelin tires but i simply HAD to ride this bike. the front was for sure pushing a bit but i wasnt trying to blaze hot laps, i have been on michelin soft fronts for about 1 year. Having some fun and getting comfy, passed some riders and im not thinking about the front, into turn 1 like i usually do.. not good.. cant go in like i usually do with hard tire..confidence that the front was not that bad had grown after 4 laps.... into turn 1 and 1/4 way through then the front just folds..looking out for the bike i hang onto the bars and leave my leg under the bike. Wore a pinhole through the case cover but just a few minor scratches on the lower fairing and tank where my leg was acting as a cushon.. my leathers did there job and altough have a hole in the shoulder, the hard armor stayed between me and the pavement..
DAYTONA HERE WE COME... now that the new bike is "initiated" and have the crash out of the way...
Dr. Jeff was a real good sport about it. We both agree there would have been some major pucker factor had we been on the $25k Duc...
oh well, rookie move, lack of experience with different tires and bikes had alot to do with this.

Glad you are ok, and the bike too, would not have been fun if you barrel rolled and totaled the bike  :D

yea-man..i had one other lowside when i first started track riding and the same thing was going through my mind.."dont let go of the bike and it wont flip over and bust everything up when the tires dig in".. it will be a judgement call though given the speed in a crash though as to push the bike away.
will you be there for Daytona??

Hey Melk...glad you're okay.  I was thinking of a 636 next year if funding allows...is it as good as they say?  I think I'll be racing Supertwins at Daytona on a borrowed bike too.  Doing the Team Challenge to get all the track time I can before our races too.

The motor is awesome.. pulls very hard and very smooth. Only had 1 session on hard tires but it feels great so far. Cant wait till next month when we get some more time on it. I bet its a toss up between the r6 and 636..

Greg/Bryan,

William Myers, the guy that beat me up at Jennings had a new 636. The bike seem to keep up very well, he was all over me. He's a good rider also. I talked to him after and he said he loves it.

BS! yea, he is fast, he beat me for 1st in the mid wt supersport.. i won the GTU as he was held up a tad behind Darrin Mulvaney after a restart following a red flag. I remember him saying the same thing about the 636..ANOTHER 636 beat me at jennings earlier this year, Jorege Arana had a new 636 and was cutting 1:22s or so, we swapped wins in similar fasion to William meyers.. That bike has got some MOTOR.. Both are Excelent riders to boot.

A local guy here just got one and came up to Jennings this weekend for a track day.  I'll be interested to hear what he has to say about it when he gets back tomorrow.  Thanks for the info. ;)

I will be going to Daytona. If I heal up competely soon I may be able to stay in the first 2 rows. Maybe this time I get a hole shot I am not gonna get caught up  ;D

See ya in Oct.

MightyDuc Racing

I might ride an incredibly fast 748 in MW GP or MW SB up there...not sure yet, and I'd be coming from the back.

Can a 748 beat the 600's at daytona? I didnt think they made that much hp even well tuned. Well the 636 may have less of an advantage there because top end wins. So if a bike is well tuned, well geared, and well raced may prevail. I have given up my regional championship hopes, and I will just get enough points to stay in the first 3 rows and hope for a good race and maybe come out on top, or a podium is even very nice...

r6philly.. im in the same boat with you for now. Racing a 22,000 mile 2000f4. It was my 1st bike that i rode on the street, then turned track bike..Gonna be cool to "feel the powaaaa"
Your right though, even the older machinery can be made pretty competitive if you pay attention to gearing, keep good tires on the thing and just stay aboard!..Do you race down here in FL????

I am in Mid-Atlantic, 2nd overall and 2nd in most MW classes. I was gonna try for a regional champion but the incident at summit point kinda put it out of question. I can ride, but not 100% and the cost of the crash and consequences is going to stop me from going to roebling and barber, so I will be down 2 events.

I raced at Daytona last spring, and this spring. I love the track, and have my own understanding and setting for the track. My bike was very underpowered this Feb, but I manage to lead 3 laps, held a 1-2 second lead for a while, until they drafted each other and caught up to me. My bike made about 95 HP but I was catching up and beating people to the line :) But I already raced against Mulvaney, Meyers, Diaz, plus our own Hector. I want to get grided up front, because if people raced as they did in the spring, I am sure I can hold them off and win a race. I was real close in Feb  ;) ;D

We're gonna find out how fast that 748 is in the Team Challenge.  It makes over 100hp.  Only a small chance of riding it in the MW classes right now anyways, but as long as it stays together in the TC, I'll be on it for Supertwins.
