Green energy supplier Moment Energy announced it will receive $20.3 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. The award will help establish a U.S.-based manufacturing facility that repurposes electric vehicle batteries.
New Gigafactory to Support a Circular Economy

Moment Energy plans to build its gigafactory in Taylor, Texas, where it expects to produce battery energy storage systems using repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Moment Energy stated that the project would support a circular economy model that increases the lifespan of essential battery materials.
The Factory's Key Features

The factory's highlights include a 1 gigawatt-hour annual production capacity, more than 50 new manufacturing roles, 200 new permanent jobs, and UL 1974 certification. The company reported that preparations for the facility's design and development would begin in the next quarter.

The funding is part of the DOE's $428 million initiative, which aims to boost clean energy manufacturing in former coal communities, strengthen the U.S. energy supply chain, reduce dependence on foreign materials, create jobs, and revitalize communities.
Incorporating AI for Battery Storage

Moment Energy added that it is developing an AI-powered management system to improve the lifespan and safety of battery energy storage, which supports the company's goal of enabling all electric vehicle batteries to be remodeled by 2030.

Moment Energy's operations include work with automotive companies such as Mercedes Benz Energy.
