So do you have to have and AMA membership before you can get you're ASRA license?

Yes, you are required to have a AMA membership for ASRA licensing.

Technically, I think you only need to get the AMA Membership to *race* in ASRA/Team Challenge/USGPRU races. You can get the license without it, but you cannot race until you sign up.
