So whats the deal with the AMA 600/1000 Supersport and Superbike classes in the schedule? I cant really find a lot of current information on it, but it appears from older AMA Road Race Grand Championships that any club level racers can enter? Anyone know if thats correct?

I am novice turning expert next season so would I be eligible to run in these AMA classes? Id really like to enter 600 supersport and superbike if I can. If so, is there a different pre-entry form/cost for these races? Do I need an AMA membership?

Oh yea one more thing, does anyone know if the 2012 daytona pre-entry form is availble online or do I have to wait for the mailer? I know its gridded based on point standings but I wanna get it in right away anyway haha

Now we just need the PRE-ENTRY forms to be posted so we can pre-enter!   I just posted about the schedule several minutes after you Supercarl....(you are way faster than me!).  Also, this may be a DUMB question but being Daytona newbies too, are the GT races sponsored by Pirelli - is that why they are listed as "Pirelli GTU" etc?  Or do we have to run Pirelli's to enter those races?? Sorry if that's a dumb question. :lmao:

Haha ive been checking the ccs website for that schedule multiple times a day during work. Just so excited for it! You were pretty quick on the post too haha.

And I was thinking the same question as you about the pirelli races; I was just to afraid to ask it! Tryin to avoid looking like a newbie  ::) . I'm assuming its just a pirelli sponsored race like the asra michelin pro races where you dont have to run their tires, but I cant say for sure. Someone who knows more than us wanna chime in?

Yes.

Any races listed as "AMA" are part of the 2012 AMA Road Race Grand Championships. It's all mixed in with the ROC, but anyone with a CCS, WERA, etc. club license can enter. The only difference is that you must be an AMA member. (http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/membership/join)

This will be the event where the AMA Road Race Horizon Award (won last year by Jake Lewis) is given out along with a Top Novice award, and the Senior/Veteran Award for racers over 30 (Alex Walker and Ricky Valdez won these in 2011). All #1 plate and award winners are then invited to the AMA Racing Banquet which will be in Columbus Ohio this year to be recognized with all the other AMA amateur racing award winners from all the other disciplines.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Looks like I will be signing up for the AMA classes then.

Can I buy the AMA membership at the track or do I need to get it beforehand? Is the top novice award & #1 plate based only on the AMA classes at Daytona? If so, how is it determined? do they just add up points in all ama classes or is there a performance index like CCS? Will there be an ex/am distinction in the AMA races or do we all race together? I dont see it on the schedule. Is there qualifying for these AMA races or how is it gridded?

Sorry for all the questions lol. I'm just new to these AMA races and its confusing for me  :ahhh: . Any extra information you think might be helpful would be super great too. THANKS!

I don't have a lot of new info, but based on how things have been run in the past: (note that things change a little bit from year to year so this isn't a final answer)

You can buy AMA membership at the track, but you're better off doing it ahead of time. It's a whole separate form to fill out and registration will go a lot faster if you already have it. It's the same price either way and the membership is good for 12 months.

The schedule is really tightly packed, they used to do qualifying but it looks like there isn't time this year so I'm not sure how they're going to be gridding. There was a distinction between AM/EX last year (scored/awarded separately) but they ran together, like we do with CCS in combined races.

The special AMA awards are based on your performance in the AMA classes.

supercarl

Cool, thanks again!  :thumb:

Do you know how they determine who gets the special AMA awards in the AMA classes though? Like do they take all your points from all the AMA classes you participated in and mulitply it by a performance index like CCS?

and what about costs, contingencgy, registration, etc...? is that all the same as CCS and do we do it through CCS? Im such a noob  ::)

Here's more info on the special awards: http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/racing/amaracingawards
It's not a purely points based decision. Last year Jake Lewis crashed in his second race, but had impressed the officials enough throughout the weekend that he still won. Ricky and Alex were probably easier decisions because they won pretty much everything they entered.

Registration will probably be handled by CCS, I'm hoping the RRGC reg forms will pop up when the regular CCS forms do.

When qualifying was involved, the classes cost a little more than regular CCS classes. I have no idea how much they're going to be this year.

Don't worry about asking lots of questions, this is an an annual one off event that has moved from org to org to org over the past few years so it's a little different every time.

supercarl

Ok I think Im getting a fairly decent handle on it now.

Basically I'm just trying to figure out if I should enter the AMA 1000 races or not. Im on a 600 so Id obviously be at a big disadvantage in those classes at Daytona. So would it be better to just do the two 600 races and score well in them? Or would it be better to do both the 2 AMA 600 and 2 AMA 1000 races where I would still score well in the 600's but probably wouldnt finish as well in the 1000 classes?

It looks like the previous year with Walker there were alot more classes the AMA judged. From the schedule this year it looks like there only 4 actual AMA classes. So I just dont know if its better to run more classes with worse average results, or less classes with better avg results.

I just wanna know what my best chance is to get the Top Novice award lol. I want that thing BAD!! It would be awesome

Any idea what the rules are? I have been looking all over the ama website, can't find class displacement rules.
