Did anyone here enter the 200?

Trying to put a budget together to do the race next year. I'm curious if you did it what you spent and what was the breakdown.

I know the AMA has some funny rules about tires, etc that force you to spend more than you think?

Thanks in advance!

Team Stiles was in the race with Scotty Ryan as the rider...

I think you'll want to budget probably $7k for a proper effort.  Depending upon how you manage them, the tire bill might be $4k with practice, qualifying, and the race.  You can skimp, but there are consequences when it's for things like tires.

Tires aren't as expensive as they used to be Dave.

My number for tires came from someone that did the 200.  I thought it was a lot too, but if you're really going to put in an effort to try to be up in the fray, you are gonna put on something new every opportunity you get.  That can include during the session.  Depends upon one's seriousness.  Some just want to race with guys that have the names they recognize, while others seek to go faster than those guys and finish ahead of them.

Perspective, right?

Interestingly, I heard $4k for tires as well.....this was for top level riders that probably but on a new set for each session. At my pace it may be a bit excessive.

I heard $8K as a starting point. Also depends who you use for crew, lodging and feeding them of course.

$4K is about 10 sets of GP-A's, they are $375 a set, right?

Haven't raced an AMA event since 2006, and I was on Michelin.  But, yeah, seems about right at $375 a set.

You have to be racing and gaining your Expert points riding a motorcycle eligible for AMA Pro
Daytona SportBike competition.

Yeah I have a call in to AMA about that. I have raced bikes eligible in the past. But since only 4 bikes are eligible this year I'm hoping they will count racing bikes that were formerly eligible......i.e. the 749. I'm not going to buy a middleweight just to get my license!

Your right; It only says you need 300 Expert points; there's no reference to when you achieved them.  I assumed you needed them all in the previous season and on the eligible bike.

AMA rules only allow bikes built within the last five years so nothing older than an 07 would qualify this year, 08 next year, and so on. Given that the 749 would not qualify. I am putting a bike together for the Supersport series this year and the AMA rules and approved equipment list are nuts. They are very strict on what parts you are allowed to run on the bikes.

Yeah I figured that one out already. However running the 749 in club events should be enough to satisfy the rule requirement to get my Daytona Sportbike License.

I plan on getting an 848 for the 200.
