What do i do if the rim is bent ??

So after looking over my bike a little more closely i noticed that the front rim is bent a little bit ??

yippee ??

Is it trashed ?  

Or should i add rim to the list of parts to get ?
Any thoughts ?

Yeah, they probably can be straightened. One of the favorites out in Cali is the Frame Man. http://www.motorcycleframeman.com/

If you look in your service manual it'll give you some specs for axial and radial runout (something like .5mm for axial and .8mm for radial) and instructions on how to check it. If they're in spec I wouldn't worry about it.

Since i can see that it is bent.  i think its not in spec.

Anyone selling a 2k gsxr 750 front wheel ??

It still might be in spec even if you can see the bend. Both my fronts have a slight dink to them and they work fine. ;)

I've raced on very bent wheels.  They can loose air, that's the big issue.

You can have them straightened.  It does work well.  Used one's are good too.

I think both my wheels are visibly bent. I know at least one is. No probs, though. I bet your tire adds more vertical (is that the axial?) runout thatn the wheel.

Ok, I'm ignorant.  What is radial or axial or anyother kind of "runout".  I've got no clue and maybe my "runout" is bad and I can therefore blame my poor lap times on it. :)

Just another little sideline in the saga of me exploring the limits.

Well i now know how fast and what kind of conditions a bike will hydroplane the front.


Well, hope i can find another set of wheels, no more pushing it in the wet for me.  I want rain tires !!  Guess i had to learn the hard way.  But i was told i was hauling butkiss before i crashed.!!  Maybee ill be a good wet racer ??

As long as the wheel balances and holds air, you should be fine.  3 out of my 4 have visual flat spots of one degree or another.  One of my rears looked bad enough to have the factory Suzuki mechanics ready to cry (or buy me a new rim) at Road A last year.

Chuckle, I usually blame my slowness on "stiction".

Anyway, for axial (or lateral) runout think of width. You're basically measuring how bent, or not, the side of the rim is perpendicular to the wheels rotation (or parallel with the axle). For radial runout think of height. You measure arount the top ended of the rim looking for dents.

Here's a picture from http://www.trucktires.com - only measure it on the rim not the tire. :)

FWIW, I have a set of rims whose axial runout is pretty bad, so much so that I can see it, but the radial is within spec and they seem to work great.
