man, sorry to here about that hope everyone's ok and it get's back to normal soon . we watched the other night about all the storms in Minnesota  but no one talked about any damage. did not know there was another front coming across the country. i guess it wasn't press worthy. we had one just miss us a couple of years ago. it's a real scary time   good luck

GSXR RACER MIKE

Hope your alright Dave!

The edge of that storm buzzed by my location but I didn't get anything other than some wind and alot of powerful lightning flashes. What a nasty looking sucker though, the majority of that thing was all red on the live radar maps. The local TV stations were constantly interrupting programing with all kinds of warnings and watches as that storm rolled thru.

Ditto what Alexa said Dave - I'm not too far away North on Milwaukee - we just got to watch the fireworks ....

Super Dave

Finally got over to the CCS board.

Yeah, we got one finally.  Grew up and lived in Omaha for twenty six years, and we missed one of the worst tornado events ever, the one in 1975...

Anyway, yeah, we got hit.  Our house damage is listed as "major", but we won't have to have our house leveled.  My trailer left the driveway and tumbled down a few lots.  We'll need new carpeting, new roofing, new siding, new windows, maybe a whole new garage as it got beat very hard.  The X took $7k in damage, wife's car was good in the garage.  Amy was on TV today...LOL!  We've been all over too.  American Family has been great, and I'm not generally a fan of insurance companies.  We did some other things with them too, but I'll have to leave that for another time.

We've got a dumpster and a big box now.  Throwing stuff away, packing things away.  We'll probably be out of the house for 90 days or so during the fixes.

The family is all good.  My oldest was at a friends.  Just three of us at home.  Sirens didn't work...and that's a story all it's own.   :err:

Does it sound like a freight train?  To me?  Well, in Omaha, there were lots of big, coal pulling freight trains coming from Wyoming.  Big power.  To me, the tornado sounded different, but it had the big power sound regardless that was enough for me to stand up and say, "Get in the basement, now."  Big change in air pressure, very different from an airplane ride, and then the sound of a lot of wind then a mass of trees, fences, and other housing debris hitting our house.  Kind of sounded like someone throwing about ten bowling balls around in a small room above you.

All happened Monday around 920PM.  House was secured, more or less, Tuesday night, and we got power back Wednesday.  Staying in Brookfield now, but we'll be moving to Oconomowoc for our second phase (more space), and then someplace else, either an apartment or rental house (seems to be mortgage companies that are eager to rent their homes up for sale).

Was a real interesting 90 seconds that has a lot of work attached to it.

I suppose we needed new carpet anyway after thirteen years here.

Thanks, guys!

Not bad on the irreplaceable stuff.  Could have been a whole lot worse for us.

Wow I was quite concerned about you in Eagle.  We got hit fairly hard in Watertown.  The plant was flooded next morning but we obviously did not see anything like the damage you experienced.  Glad you and the family are safe & sound!!

Thanks yet again for the great thoughts!

Amy was on TV yesterday.  She said the crew stopped by to see me again...LOL!  Amy got more TV time, but they told her to tell me "Hi!"

Tomorrow we move into a new hotel.  Should be there for about two weeks.  Phase three will be another place.  Rental house or an apartment.

Still looking forward to Schwarz on July 4th after Road American.

man , glad you and your family is ok dave , was watching the weather channel an hour or so ago and it looked like more bad weather up there. we could use a remodel job too but not that way. years ago my trooper friend had his windows knocked out during hurracaine andrew he got a comeplete make over but what a pain in the ass it took months. at least you seem to have good coverage.   marc

Ducmarc

yeah the facebook link works what a mess,  i complain that all my stuff is junk but i think it would awful to have it dumped out in the yard.  the only thing worse i can think of is fire.

Super Dave

Yeah, fire would suck.

I guess the "cool" part of a big disaster is that there's a huge influx of resources.  Contractors, insurance folks, etc.  Helps make it all work more efficiently with them all there.
Super Dave

Burt Munro

Be sure and keep us updated with progress photos too.

I always appreciate being able to look back on those once it's all done.   :thumb:

GSXR RACER MIKE

Just out of curiosity Dave, did you have replacement cost insurance?

When my parents house had a fire in 1999 they luckily had replacement cost insurance which replaced all items - no matter what they cost currently. Normal insurance only repays you the depreciated value of the items, alot of people don't consider that when purchasing insurance (or are completely unaware like I was that this type of coverage exists). In my parents situation the normal depreciated claim would have been something like $32,000 to cover all the damage and losses, but because they had replacement cost insurance their coverage was around $78,000. For the rather minimal difference in insurance coverage costs for the replacement cost insurance, it was well worth it for them.

Another odd thing was that their insurance costs WENT DOWN after the house was rebuilt! The agent said that's because the house (which was built in the late 60's) had been upgraded during the rebuild process to current safer codes.  :thumb:

Hey Dave, Good to hear you guys are in good spirits. I'm sure the moving about will get tedious after a bit.
Like I said earlier, if you need anything, just holler. <even if it's to just stop in and jaw for 5 minutes or 5 hours>

LOL!  Yeah, neither of us will get anything done if I stop by...blah, blah, blah...LOL!

Thanks a bunch!

I guess our house is now the backdrop for WTMJ4 coverage...We're not the worst at all, but, well, I guess, it looks bad enough.
Super Dave

Why is that? 2 yakkers in the same room with all sorts of ideas and opinions...imagine that.

Too bad I don't watch the local news that often, you guys are most likely good interviews.
