Best route to NJMP?

Patriot Racing is taking a group of wounded veterans to the AMA races at NJMP on Saturday, Sept 5.

I wasn't able to make the CCS races in July, and have heard everything from the drive sucks to the drive was no problem.
We will be picking up the vets from Walter Reed (in DC) and getting on the road no later than 0630 Saturday morning.

Any input to make our drive up smooth and fast would be appreciated.

Us northeasterners have missed AMA PRO racing locally for many years,  Mladin's last race ? Next year's contract decision maker? Hope all the racers are as hungry for the win!

How many tolls are you willing to pay?  First one is the tunnel in Baltimore if you don't take 695 around Baltimore back to I-95.  I went around.  Then you'll have a toll on the north side of the river in Havre de Grace.  This toll is northbound only.  It's $4 for two axles, $6 for one more axle and it goes up from there.  This one is sort of avoidable if you exit before the river and take
Rt 155 to Pulaski Hwy and Rt275 back to I-95.  There is still a toll, but for $5 (for a car, not sure about other vehicles) you can get some sort of bar code sticker that allows unlimited crossing.

Then when you get into Delaware there is a toll.  This one cost me $15.   :ahhh:  Highway robbery.  This one is avoidable in both directions and certainly worth it.  Had I known how much it was I definitely would've gone around the first time.  Look at a map for Elkton Rd, Christiana Pkwy, and S. College Ave.  This is the detour route.  The free detour was actually faster on the way back from NJ because traffic was backed up for miles because of the toll.  I was surprised there weren't more people exiting there.

From there stay on I-95 to 295 east where you will cross the river.  No toll this time, but on the way home it cost me $4.50.  Then look for the exit for Rt140, Rt40 or Cedar Crest Manor, it's the second interchange.  I'm not sure what the signs say.  This is the last exit before the turnpike and tolls begin.  Here you'll exit and stay straight on it.  This is Rt40, it's a two-lane and not real fast.  Stay on Rt40 and until you get to Rt55 and take that south.  It's 4-lane divided, 65mph.   

You can either exit to N 2nd St at the north end of town or E. Main on the east side. I chose E. Main.  This puts you in Millville.

I'm one of those that thought the drive sucked.  Nearly as long as it takes to get to VIR but something like 70-80miles closer.  The drive home was worse because of t-storms and people were doing 15mph on 95. Didn't get good until I-70 and by then it was 9pm.

You may want to think about heading North to the PA Turnpike and taking that East into NJ.

I done that route and the DE/DC route on my way to Summit, and the traffic around Baltimore and DC was unbelievable. Shorter on a map, but the beltway at 2pm was a standstill, even though there was no accidents. I see why people complain about it so much.
