Why the low turnout at Barber?

I just looked at the results and it looked like the grids were pretty light.  Isn't Barber usually a big event?

Too far away.. I drove 8hrs to Gateway and that was a long drive.. guess I'm getting old.  20 years ago 8hrs was no big deal.

I am thinking GIR was light due to it being a GP only event.  The June date was GP/MW, and it was great!

I think its a combination of things:
- distance
- $$$
- scheduling

for Mid-Atlantic racers, Barber was only 2 wks after NJMP. 
2 wks before that was VIR
and 2 wks before that was Summit

I skipped the NJ round simply because my wallet was begging for mercy
The decision to miss that race had nothing to do with anything other than I had run the previous 2 races and couldn't afford a 2nd July race - especially with that 2nd race being a Twin Sprint event.

Every round that I've been to this year has been smaller than the one from the previous year....did I say that right?...at any rate, I think most of it is the economy.....personally I think we are lucky to be able to participate.

Certainly, with all the environmental controls too, I'm certain that recreational use of combustion engines and the resulting accidents would have to be covered...  Probably would have to find a nice small animal doctor to help you out.

I think there is a serious chance of racers getting screwed at some point. How hard is it and how long before the government starts to use the same "logic" they are already "legally" using against smokers before they apply it to us.

Just wait until some environmental nut shows up to a race and sees all that race gas and those used tires... Mr O. has to pay for all his ridiculous spending somehow... I'm envisioning at least a 9% "race tax". And no matter how broke any of us are, almost all of us make at least decent money which means he's completely justified in releaving you of that extra money.

If they would be covered, I guarantee you they will be imposed a "crashing tax" for unnessecary use of a motorized vehicle, or some other such nonsense.  That- or anyone who has ever registered in a race will be taxed.  Good grief.  Is it 2012 yet????

Well, the Cap & Trade program would increase the cost of, well, everything.  Diesel used to move tires from places, diesel used to move food from places, let alone actually harvesting it.  Electricity for race tracks, electricity at the CCS office, AC for the CCS office, travel for the officials and cornerworkers...

I don't think it's political.  This is a rational discussion too.  And that's been missing from government for some time.  LEAVE US ALONE!!!

I said that a lot didn't I?  Maybe.  Maybe it's my first run at something with no money.  Kind of like racing.  I will need 2,000 signatures of registered voters to be on the ballot.  I would be running as an independent.  I have some website ideas that need to get implemented along with some other things.  I think I have some time given that I don't have any money to spend.

Yeah, I agree.  Went to candidate school a couple weeks ago.  Honestly, politics looks a lot like marketing yourself for racing. 

The questions become:  do I really want to put my family through it?  Well, they've already went through racing...  Next, if I don't stand up for my kids rights and their eventual opportunity to their work, who will?

my roommate tried to get on the ballot for Governor of MO, he tried to start his own political party so he needed 10k sigs.  Unless you are paying a company to get the sigs for you it is ALOT more work than you could ever imagine.  he worked on it constantly with the help of friends going to post offices, DMV's, ball games, fairs, etc... he ended up with somewhere around 2500... and he was at it roughly 5-6 hours a day, 6 days a week.  a good day of signatures was around 100-150, and that was NOT the norm.

he wouldnt take any campaign contributions and didnt want to dump 100's of 1000's into the program...
