Ok, I know this kind of thing has been discussed before. I am currently getting on my health plan at my work but I have been told that they will not cover me whatsoever if the injury is related to motorcycles, racing, etc. I was looking for different peoples opinions and experiences with this matter. What do you have. Does it legitimately cover you when you get hurt on track. Is there something I can currently get to cover me for this. etc.

Thanks for any input.

Some employer plans do, some dont. I had a separate one even though my former employers plan would cover competition injuries.

It was my understanding you couldn't be told that you wouldn't be covered at all if you ride a motorcycle? I remember when the AMA went up to bat for the employees at one of the gun manufacturing factories (mabey Ruger?) about that very issue and I believe the company actually lost in court and had to remove the motorcycling exclusion clause from their Health Insurance coverages and exclusions (though racing would be a whole different circumstance and probably could be excluded).

When the wife and I  got our latest insurance a few years ago, our first agent said the company would never cover any professional motorsports competition or sky diving.
He quit the company during our acceptance period.
When we met with the next agent, I was concerned about mentioning it, he never said I would not be covered and I never really found out.
We also have the catastophic coverage, I can only hope that it would cover the biggie, just don't want to bring it up, probably a mistake not knowing.

It was supposed to pass, but last I heard they still can exclude "high risk" activities. Ruger probably gave in sicne alot of people were threatening to boycott Ruger and not buy their products anymore.

when i had the big one  the HP asked what happened and i told the i fell off my motorcycle the paramedics cut my leathers off and gave them to my wife the ambulance ride was separate bill from the hospital when we called  the ambulance company and paid cash for that( to which they told us everybody pays cash for the ride from the track) luckily i was conscience and had the presence of mind not to give out much info. i don't know what would happened if i would have been knocked out

Ducmarc

i will also say that my insurance only paid for half the bill they said the hospital bills were inflated. so the hospital went after us for about $200,000 we had to convince the hospital we did not have that kind of money(which we didn't) and they finally wrote it off after much debate.if we would have had the money i think we would have been in real trouble. so i think you need to make sure you had good coverage not just coverage. especially if you have money that can be found.the other thing is disability coverage aflac or similar i had the papers on my desk when i got crunched big mistake I'm self employed and was out for 3 months and am out now for another 2 months.the other problem is once you have a claim its preexisting so your stuck with your insurance if there's long term complications . fortunately my wife was a medical manager and understood the game i don't know what i would have done with out her probably hire a lawyer

ducmarc
did your insurance policy officially cover this kind of situation or was it regular health insurance that you managed to somehow get covered for this accident?

Ducmarc

i never found in any paperwork that said wether it did or didn't so we took the don't ask don't tell approach assuming they would show up with the appropriate paperwork

DEVINC

ya that's what i am worried about
