Part it out or sell it whole?

I have an 07 gsxr 1000. I'm not asking much for it, but there doesn't seem to be much interest. When I start thinking about what the individual parts might sell for, it adds up to more than my asking price for the whole bike. Is there a reason I shouldn't just part it out?  Has anyone done it?

I have parted out two race bikes and have ended up with a little more money than selling the bikes whole.  The down side is that it can take a fair amount of time tearing down, finding the correct size boxes, obtaining packing material, boxing up parts, responding to each question, taking and emailing more pics, trips to UPS and USPS, etc.  I try selling on boards first and use ebay as a last effort.  At the present time parts are not moving very quickly.  I still have a few parts from the last bike that have not sold.  If you have the time and don't mind the extra work I found that it is worth the effort.

What Karls said...

It's about time...  If you have the time & resources you can do better on parting them out, but convenience is found in selling them whole...

And if you have to buy boxes or tools, you can quickly get upside down in parting bikes...  I've parted bikes for a living (back when it was possible), and did quite well...  Then the market got saturated and it wasn't worth it anymore...

Another point to consider is shipping.  Most companies used the increased gas prices to increase shipping cost making the shipping on most items higher than you would expect.  Many times buyers will ask "will you take $XX shipped?"  Make sure you find out where you are shipping to prior to answering.  I've spent more shipping a small box to a rural address in Missouri than a set of forks across the country to a major city.

What are we working with here? What do you have, and what are you asking for it whole? I know it is a 07 GSXR 1k, but specifics.

It's not my intention to turn this into a classified. With that said, I don't know how much info I can give you. Bike has 800 miles. Penske triple. Leo full to. Full set of stock body work, minus headlight. Vortex rearsets. Power commander. Some other crap. Not really the point.
The point is, no one has money to buy a whole bike. But after reading the advice of others, I'm screwed. I'm too lazy to buy a postage stamp. I dropped down to $7500.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOOOHOOO! What a freaken ride"

Is this the bike you bought in Ga when you came down to Road A?

The reason I asked what we were working with is so that you can get a real answer. Some bikes' parts are worth more than others. Demand and thus parts value is completely determined by what kind of bike you have. A Kawasaki ZX6R doesn't bring near the value in my experience as similar parts from/for a GSXR of similar vintage, etc.
