So I've had a bad weekend, mostly stemming from it taking 36 hours to get from Los Angeles, CA to Albany, NY due to Continental's incompetence. I would normally never air dirty laundry in public and I absolutely abhor the smashing stone of calling someone out on forums, but I'm in that mood now...

Todd Trumble, from TTRmotorsports.com has apparently had some issues with signing up on MyRacingBio.com. I of course did not know about this because he never once emailed me to look into it and he never once emailed me to make a comment or inquire; this despite the nice and easy Contact Us page.

Todd Trumble, from TTRmotorsports.com wrote me the following email, again this is the first time he has ever contacted me.

Your site sucks! Icant sign up I tried and tried. Now I don't want to sign up because I think I said before your site sucks.

I'd like to first start of by saying that I have devoted now countless hours into MyRacingBio.com; it is a service that I hope to one day sell to other racing organizations, and for right now, offer almost for free to the CCS community. Aside from my enormous amounts of time, it costs me almost 2 thousand dollars a year out of my pocket just to simply pay for the hosting of the site.

Second; if you never even sign up for my site, I offer dozens of features that were never even imagined or possible on the old system. There are so many cool things available and hopefully everything is easy to use to boot.

Third: If there is an error on MyRacingBio.com, I get an email and an SMS message. This means that at 3:30 am, when someone hits refresh on a page 35 times when they get an error, because they think that the error will magically go away the 35th time, I get 35 emails and 35 SMS messages that go to my phone and wake me up. 9 times out of 10, I get up, go to my office and try to fix the problem at 3:30am. Unfortunately my software shop of one person and my quality assurance staff of zero can not catch every bug in my newly written software (which I'm very proud of by the way). My error handling logic might not also catch 100% of all the errors [this is how I'm notified], which means there is a chance that something can go wrong and I might not ever know. So when Todd Trumble, from TTRmotorsports.com is unable to email me using the available service to let me know of an issue, but instead feels the need that his first contact with me needs to be as a complete ass, lets just say I get a little bit miffed.

I might not have ever needed the services or products of TTRmotorsports.com, but Thankfully, Todd Trumble, who owns TTRmotorsports.com has now at least narrowed down my choices by one less company that I will need to compare prices with in the future if I do...

As a foot note, I did email back Todd Trumble from TTRmotorsports.com within 6 minutes of receiving his; informing him simply that an early email would have resulted in me fixing the issue and asking what the problem seems to be. Within one hour of sending these emails on a topic that was apparently extremely critical to him, I have received no response.

Quote from: Russell Brown to Todd Trumble (10:05am Tuesday)A simple email that there was an issue would have resulted in me looking into it.

EDIT:
It might also be useful information to know that within the first hour after he wrote me his email, 7 other people managed to sign up just fine.

$2k a year for hosting!?!  Dude...  shop around.  That's robbery unless you're on your own dedicated personal server with a 5-9's SLA.

HostMySite.com ColdFusion VPS $1600ish a year. I do also host my blog on there as well. MyRacingBio isn't exactly a small application. The database it's self is around 2gigs with a semi-high load and obviously everything is dynamic content.

Actually for what I have, I have one of the cheapest packages that you can find on a decent host.

For fun I ran a quick report on the source code from MyRacingBio.com since I was curious anyway.

103 ColdFusion files with 14,696 lines of code
13 XML Configuration files with 866 lines of code
6 JavaScript files with 1264 lines of code

file and line counts exclude empty lines and comments and any pre-written package or framework like Coldspring, Machii and Yahoo YUI are not included. In other words in my free time I wrote 16929 lines of code for the love of the sport... For those who ever worked for someone like GE or IBM, multiple that by 15 to account for not having a manager that audits my line count results.

I like your site very much it has some really cool things on there.  As far as posting up on a forum, I guess its like when people are driving in their cars.  They dont mind cutting you off or giving you the finger because inside that car is safe.  They feel disconnected from the ill-will or danger of the other person.

Thanx for your hard work on the site!!!

Stop your whining. :) I for one would not have put his URL all over this post. Now when someone is looking for his shop or something they will find an easy way to navigate to it. Just a thought. Great job on the website by the way!

I did this on purpose, after one day check out these Google searches:

My whining will not go un-noticed and I'm OK with what I deem as retributive justice!
