i realize it's not really the answer to your question, but my 65 year old father was skiing 4 months after his replacement and he's done 4 10day hiking trips in NZ, switzerland, italy, and Britain since.  in his case, being an active, relatively fit person, his outcome was excellent.

Depending on what ya decide, lemme know and I'll bring ya some bike magazines at the ol hospital.  After my 07 wad at Daytona, docs told me the hip might die from lack of blood flow, and I'm very thankful that did not happen.  You may want to keep everything ya find out handy, I'm sure you are not the only one of us facing this decision.  Any chance physical therapy will give you a better range of motion?  Hope all goes well bro.

been in therapy for months seems to work for that day as long as i don't sit in  a car to long. my crash doc. who i really trust says it's about as good as it going to get. naturally it's my left hip and 90% of corners are lefts. not going to make a decision till after daytona. just hate to go through all that and end up with more pain and less motion

Why do you need the hip replacement? Is it from a previous injury or arthritis?

I know that my 60 yr old neighbor has had both done, and because she's not very active, it relieves pain but not much more. I've know others who have had them and they do become more active, but vigilance about therapy and recovery are priorities to a successful outcome.

My advice, if you decide to do it, would be to work out regularly and create strength throughout your body, especially the legs and core. Eat as clean and healthy as possible. (If you're not already doing these things) You need to do this months before your surgery, but it will set you up for a quick recovery and strengthen your immune system.

As far as current pain, cut out sugar and alcohol. Those 2 things create inflammation and that sets you up for more pain. Again, a well balanced diet can support your immune system.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

had a nasty high side at jennings april of last year broke the whole cup out of my hip socket and fractured my pelvis in 37 places naturally everybody says I'm lucky to walk(which maybe true) but I've always been active and been a truck mechanic for 25 yrs . i seemed to be getting better until about 3 months ago now I'm hobbling around like an old man and left hand corners are almost impossible . i guess there's always the handshift harley class in AHRMA
