hi i just started racing a little while ago and have been using borrowed bikes, mostly my friends who lives in my neighborhood but i need to get something of my own.  i have a friend selling his 05 cbr600rr.  that is the bike that i have borrowed a few times now.  it's partly race setup.  the bodywork has been replaced with racing bodywork, the muffler has been changed, it has the racing footpegs and handlebars, and a dampener for the handlebars.  it does not have a power commander or exhaust headers and the forks are all original.  the bike has about 3000 miles and he offered it to me at $3000 but it has no title.  that comes with the street body work.  i checked the carfax report to make sure that its not stolen but nothing came up for than vin, maybe there is some other place to check motorcycle vins i dont know.

is that a good deal?  were else can i check the vin?  i lik the bike and am pretty slow still so i just need something that wont hold me back from improving but it does not need to be the best race bike out there either.  i will start shopping for something as a longer solution once my basic skills are good enough to use a better bike, but i am wondering if this bike is good enough for me to learn on the rest of this season and if its a good deal.

have police or dmv run the VIN, 3000 grand for an 05 I would be very cautious. But in my own words I've never owned anything but Honda's, good luck!

How do they do it?
Why do they do it?
Riding, and crashing, and riding, and winning
And always faster, and faster, and faster!

Not on ebay, you rebuild another bike if your smart about it.

That would be a great deal if it's clean and not too beat-up.
Parts aren't that expensive, especially if you get a discount at you local dealer, some offer basic "racer" discounts and that can turn into sponsorship if you do well and can offer them something in return.

The 600RR is a great bike, very bulletproof and more than fast enough in the right hands.

somebody told me that it doesnt have a "slip clutch" is that a big deal for a learning rider?

honda60071

Learn the bike first feeling, get the suspension done  then worry about horsepower and neat little parts to go on it. But a slipper doesn't come stock.

a slipper clutch is just a band aide for poor technique in my opinion. the 600RR is a very competitive machine in the right hands. but like honda60071 said, getting the suspension done and learning to actually ride it are much more important then trick parts like a PC or a slipper clutch....but what do i know, i race a little 2 smoker and go around you diesels in the corners anyway. lol

Just starting my racing career on a 600rr. Can't claim to be fast or even proficient, but if I knew how to ride it I'm sure I could be. At the amateur club racing level you could be competetive on an F4i, F4, etc.

$3000, no title, that sounds like a great deal for a semi-built 05. I bought mine salvaged for $3000 and put $2000 worth of basic parts and a hell of a lot of elbow grease to make it what it is. That $2k did not include PC, Slipper Clutch, or even a slip on. I think I'm going to rock the stock exhaust until I get a top 5 finish (so it could be a while).

Get some crash protection for the frame, cases, swingarm, etc, and get the suspension done, then move on to the power bits.

the 600rr is a damn good race bike..like others have said..do the suspension, pipe, powercommander and the bare assentials and thats about it..i rode an 03 last year for my novice season..13 race weekends..it racked up a few wins and a couple AM championships..it had a stock motor that still had the stock air filter (no shit)..the valve cover has NEVER been taken off the bike..it had roughly 12,000 miles when i sold it back in Dec..5,000 or so on the track..slipper clutches are nice but its also good learning to ride a bike the proper way, without one..i think 3g's is a great price for the bike..good luck..Honda's are the shit!!

i knew you were going to see that jon and say something. good info though, i think you'd know best about turning a salvage heap into one pretty race bike.
