Big nasty Bombshell, someone is in deep poo doo, hopefully Josh Hayes had no knowledge of this blatant violation.

Hodgson's engine, Zemke's axle (although that was like a pit-crew mistake), Duhamel's clutch, last year's gas, and now this...Honda's just jinxed there...

Good day for Kawi's, Duc, and Beemers, but too bad Davies mis-read the pit-board and f'ed up the pit-stop for Rapp, otherwise Rapp might have had two in a row.

No doubt Erion didn't do it intentionally as obviously they would have known that they would have been caught; must be a different interpretation of the rules somehow...perhaps they "shaved" in the process of "coating" and thought it was kosher, or something like that.

For those interested, Erion's response (from Cycle News):

So Chaz Davies is your Daytona 200 winner for 2008?!!??

No offense to him, he is a great rider, but what the hell is AMA racing coming to?  I miss the days when great international riders would show up and do the first round at DIS... Fogarty comes to mind.  I don't know about anyone else, but I thought watching both races was similar to watching paint dry.  Oh well, at least motogp starts today... thank god.

Maybe Erion was just testing the waters since AMA Pro Roadracing is now going to be run more or less by NASCAR where the crew chiefs have the attitude "It's our job to cheat and their job to catch us!"  :spank:

Too bad for Josh, it sure seemed like he really was on a mission.

Chaz Davies, and English rider for those looking for foreign riders, won the Daytona 200.  In fact, he decided the US was a place to move his career forward.

GOOD for Chaz!!!!

Interpretation?

The AMA has had a couple of sets of rules:  those in place for me and others.  Those for the manufacturers teams.  Erion was held to the rules, and they got caught.  They aren't bikes that come from a dealership anyway, as the rules are written.

They were warned at the beginning of the year, and they got hit.  It's their own fault.

And Duhammel's clutch problem...

Anyone that has a road racing license think that they could do what they did with bikes?  And how long would your suspension be and how much would your fine be if you ignored the black flag for so long?

David,

You know the AMA has looked the otherway for years regarding the Japanese factory teams. It appears that the new AMA isn't going to do that. Of course they could have DQ'd every factory Honda, they are not and were never production machines. The only production part on any of the factory Hondas is a few of the stickers. Everything is special and specific to give them an advantage. Miguel should be penalized also. That was BS and his whole crew knew it.

If you think the metal removed from the erion cranks was not intentional you are a complete idiot.

Super Dave

I know all too well.

Miguel?  Yeah, I like him and all, but how long have he and his crew been in racing?  They are all certainly professionals, they know the rules, and they can read, right?

Isn't that why American Honda pays their salaries?  Miguel, sure, is gonna jump on any opportunity to get on a bike when his crew hands it to him.  But how many times do you need to see the black flag?  I'm betting only once for the checker...

Maybe, but at least I'm not a complete asshole.  You didn't do very well on the reading comprehension part of your SAT's, did you?

What I'm saying is that if they indeed shaved it, then they likely didn't do it as a stand-alone process since they knew that they had a high probability of finishing on the podium and therefore being inspected, and that's a completely obvious modification.  They may be cheaters, but they're not so stupid that they wouldn't try to hide an obviously flagrant rules violation amongst some other legal changes or something like that.

Otherwise, why not just do anything they wanted, like overboring the cylinders.  Or running nitrous.  They could even just run a litre-bike, or better yet take Schumacher and his F1 Ferrari (it's also red) and put him in Hayes' leathers and helmet and let him run the race, nobody would notice, would they?
