I think some of it has to do with a participation/appreciation level.  Everyone enjoys things that they have direct experience with a ittle more, I think.  I played football, and love watching it.  I also race, and love to watch racing.  It's also the same reason I don't watch basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey, volleyball, polo, swimming, cricket, rugby, soccer, or bocce, badmitten, etc....  Those are the only two sports I have participated in.  Even though there really is no comparison to the pros, I think everyone can appreciate watching something that they've done a little more.  Eh.  Maybe not.   Make sense?

For the record - I hate NASCAR, but love Family guy and Simpsons.  My DVR if full of FG constantly...drives the wife nuts.

Yeah, I play soccer, but I don't particularly enjoy watching it. Don't really watch much racing either. I'll watch any sport for a few minutes, but inevitably get bored... unless it's racing and it's a really good race. The best thing about getting HDTV (since we don't have cable) is the extra PBS channels. Lots of science, nature, and history shows in our house... tempered with lots of Simpson's and Family Guy.

Here's my thing with it.  When I'm at a store and the cashier or whomever says "Enjoy the game!" or "are you watching the game tonight?" and I reply that I'm not into it, they either freak out, or just go on like I know what the hell they're talking about.

As far as I'm concerned, a tight end and a wide receiver are different actresses in the +21 movie rentals, and a quarter-back is exactly what I expect when the total is $1.75 and I hand you two bucks.  And a center?  Sure, you can have it.  It's right between the left & right cheek...

I totaly agree participation Is everything. I dont take to a lot of things that I dont or cant do (football included). I think that alot of us just cant get into somthing just to enjoy watching it. My hats off to those who can... Just not me
