How does he like the Navy life?  Ed wasn't in the military was he?  What made your son decide to join the Navy?

barb_arah

Ed wasn't in the military at all, but both my father and Ed's served in the navy.  One of the things Kevin mentioned was he thought it was the right thing to do, and he wanted to honor both his grandfathers by joining the navy.  I just wish my parents were alive to share this with them.  He seems to like being in the navy and has been up for a couple awards and nominations.  I see that it was the right choice for him.

My son joined the navy in June 2006, right out of high school.  He recently became a petty officer.[/i]  He's been doing quite well, and has been encouraged to attend officer training.  Not that I'm bragging or anything.  He's accomplished all this on his own through hard work  He was stationed in Virginia for a few months and has been in Bahrain since March 2007.
No need to feel like you're bragging.  I think those of us that have military experience recognize that becoming an NCO that quickly is a pretty fast track.  Speaks for itself, Barb.  Nice!

Awesome!  Sounds like he's going to make the most of it.

Awesome picture, did he come home for his January leave?

barb_arah

Hi Craig!  It's great to hear from you!!!  No, he didn't get home at all.  I just talked to Kevin said that he won't get home for quite awhile.  Not sure when, but when he does, I'll be sure to let you know.
Kevin has won his second award for being Sailor of the Quarter, due to his high performance.  Also, he's been nominated for sailor of the year.  It sure looks like he's making the best of things there.  He'll do well.

Very cool!  Most every time I see a pic of our military, I cant help but think of my own children and then draw the natural conclusion:  that with your sons and daughters serving on the front lines of our nations freedom, my own son and daughters can grow up, attend school, live their dreams, raise families and worship God.  Thank you.  (though it does look like the President cut in the chow line)  8)

As a matter of fact, the President DID cut in line; that's what I heard.

A most  impressive family.........glad you all are where you want to be and You all have Big ( fully deserved) reasons to be proud of a son who loves his country so much and understands the current threats this country is facing- seems 1/2 the country has their heads planted conveniently in a hole in the ground- like much  of the free  world does- PEACE-cannot be had with our current  enemy- they want to rule the world there way- Thanks to all the service people- screw berkely- I dont post much lately, this was a must-cat

Thanks Catman!  It amazes me that, for someone so young, he didn't hesitate to step up to the plate like that.
