No.

Start with correct spring rates.  But having additional options is good.  Geometry can be a bigger cure that just replacing a component.  Tires change geometry.

The dampening should not overcome the spring.

That's a start.  Following what you feel and some minor intuition will help in your learning.

thanks thats a lot in the article from sport rider i just have to finish reading it

geometry is more along what i need since the basic were already figured out with the springs and sag
but i would like to just find more info on all of it to read up on since i have some time to kill
