Id say go for it. Either way you need that seat time, why not come into the first weekend on the bike, and race it? It's not like it's gonna be REALLY hard to ride the machine at a quick pace, right? (Not FAST, just quick) If you come into the weekend with the goal of just getting more comfortable, what have you got to lose?

Either way, I'll see you that April weekend, and I look forward to racing against you. I'll be at the RA weekend on Friday and Sunday. #548, should be a yellow SV with sharkskinz and a GSXR tail. (Like Jesse Janich's bike last year, except mine will have a yellow lower, too)

BTW, are any other LWSS riders upset about the Firebolt being LWSS legal? Dawn, I know you mentioned the fact, but does it bother you and Paul?

A stock XB-9R has more horsepower and torque than a stock SV or any other bike that runs that class.  That along with the race oriented design and suspension....  We would prefer that it was not LWSS legal.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Nate.  We'll see.  Either way, I look forward to racing with you, not against you... ;)

Re the Buell - WTF?  That is a twin cylinder, air cooled 984cc motor.  The Tech Requirements for Lightweight Supersport says that bikes with like that can only be "up to 800cc".  And don't even begin to try to tell me that CCS considers that thing a HD Sportster.  It ain't.

Dawn - do you know anything more about this?

I would not worry about the Firebolt. Some raced last year (at least I raced against one in LWGP), Ed Key had no problem beating them.

Ed Key can beat just about anyone.  That guy is talented.  Was that on his SS SV or his SB SV?

Dawn   :)

tzracer

He was on his SS bike.

I beat the XB9R and I was only turning 19s that weekend at Blackhawk.

I doubt there will be many XB9Rs racing, weren't many last year. The bike is pretty expensive and you need to purchase a swingarm to be able to run a chain. They are not very fast stock.

I ran against a XB-9R at Road America and his acceleration was nowhere near my SV. My bike is not SS legal, but the Buell was waaay slower. I am not sure if it was the rider or the bike though.

Just curious, Numb - what about your SV made it not SS legal?

Actually Ed Key was beaten in LGP a lot last year  most of which was done by a Buell.

I also doubt you will see many competitive XB9R's because of the expense.

Numb's motor is built so he can't race SS, but don't worry he is an expert now.

TZracer/Brian how fast do you, can you run at Blackhawk?  I am trying to set a realistic goal this year and I have my mind set on 18's, but I am only an amatuer.

tzracer

The Buell that has beaten Ed is not your average Buell.

TZ Boy, whether 18s are a reasonable goal or not depends upon what you have done in the past. Have you gotten into the teens yet? If not I would set that as my first goal. Usually I don't try for low lap times, I try to ride better (smoother, smarter) and low lap times follow.

TZs are capable of 14s or better at Blackhawk. At one time a TZ held the track record.

Brian, you avoided my question. ;D  How fast have you run at Blackhawk and what do you expect to do this year?

The fastest time I have seen at Blackhawk from a TZ was Stiles doing 17's.

No teen's for me I did 20's my second weekend.  I only do 2 races a weekend and I managed to go off and not crash in every LGP at Blackhawk last year.

I beleive that lap times are of absolute importance.  They take away all the feelings/emotions and give you cold hard fact's.  The are the basis for nowing where you are and setting goals for where you want to be.  The are the resource for nowing if you are stagnating or progressing.  Having said that it seems that racer's talk about their lap times as if it was their penis size.
