When I was a kid I lived in Iran. 

We celebrated Christmas....we just celebrated it very, very quietly.

Thanks!  I'm feeling a little better.  How do they feel about Americans over there?

From my experience the Netherlands was the most open and friendly country towards Americans I've been to.  But I'm only familiar with France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.  Almost everyone you run into in Holland speaks at least some English and most speak it very well. I've heard that the Scandinavian countries are very welcoming to Americans as well - but I've never been there.
