ok, my 05 honda 600rr has 7000 miles on it. it still runs strong, just down  a few ponies from new when we checked it on the dyno. could have been air temp. don't really know. looking for suggestions on who you would trust to work on your motor.

don't tell me to buy a new one. i would like to but it just ain't gonna happen. i am thinking just getting valves checked out and leaving it be.

any input?

Mongo

Change the oil, change the plugs, check the valves and ride it.

that's what i am leaning towards. didn't want to dump a ton of money into it. i have to stick with the bike for one more year. may go with an aftermarket air filter and see if the dyno numbers get any better.

the bike runs strong. a buddy of mine is fortunate enough to be able to run mr10. i am running u4 and he only has 1-2 more hp. it must be all top end he catches me at the  end of long straights all the time.

yeah! that's what i am going to do.

thanks mongo. didn't know you spent to much time over here?   i guess you know I've been cheating on you now LOL!!

p.s: thanks for getting the trophies out to me from last season, i appreciate it

If she's down just a bit, yeah, do what Sean said.  Might even want to look at the chain if it's original.

If it wasn't the same exact dyno, your ruler might be different too.

Mongo

I try to keep track of as much racing stuff as I can but yeah, I'm cheating on me too.  :D

That puts a whole new perspective on the question "what would Mongo do?" doesn't it  :lmao:

But back to the question... Yep what mongo said, just basic maintanence, I wouldn't even bother with an aftermarket filter.  But if you really want to get some work done, give Matt D a call at MD performance, that's who did the work and my motor (when it was still Jeff's bike) and it's now got 2 seasons on it and is still VERY strong.

don't bother with the valves unless you're going to pull it down and do a valve job.  They just don't go out of tolerance...

the CCT is a weak point but it's not mission critical, it'll be noisy as HELL before you have any remote problems.

As for being down on power, honda's 'slipper' pisons have incredibly short skirts to them, and tend to rock as they move.  That being the case they can and do wear down the cylinder walls and will cause blow-by.  This is most likely where your power loss is coming from.

If the couple HP is worth $2k to you, rebuild it.

If not, just run it.  Honda motors are extremely reliable in my experience...

Leak test will confirm this!

valves good, plugs good.

changed the air filter and clutch plates. fixed the broken throttle cable.

everything was nice and clean, you could definitely smell the u4, even though i drain and run pump gas through.

gonna try to get to the track this Wednesday and that should be it. i will change the oil and the water wetter and put her to rest. new sharkskinz for next season. will work on re-building calipers, new brake fluid, brakes etc.

the 05 will be hear again next season.
