Yeah, tell me something I don't know.

I'm hoping that my learning that I'm allergic to wheat and yeast is going to help me a bit.  The ringing in my ears seems to be under control.

FYI, there's a gluten free market on the corner of Chase and Oklahoma in Milwaukee. I've never been in there, but it might be worth a look-see for you.

Also, there's an Outpost foods not too far from there on KK north of Oklahoma, and they have gluten free products as well. I've also read about a gluten free beer, so all is not lost. ;)

Super Dave

Thanks for the heads up!

Beer is still going to have yeast though.  So does catsup, mustard, BBQ sauce, cheese, sour cream.  I'm finding it in some potato chips and other stuff.

MSG is wheat based too, I guess.  French fries that are "crispy" usually have a little flower that makes them that way.

Really, if I focus back on going low carb, I'll be in very good shape.

As I understand it, gluten intolerence is different than a wheat allergy.  I might know a bit more after my next round of tests on the fourth.

The proteins in wheat are what form gluten, so yes, it is a fine difference.

There are rice flours on the market, so deep fried is not out of the question,  but obvious not the most healthy choice.

You'll be finding that there is so much crap in our foods today, it will make your head explode. There are some really good resources out there now.

I won't go into my food rant  :preachon: at this time. that also can make your head explode.

Yeah, it's making it easier for me just to eat more steak though.

And my next round of tests just got moved to the 19th...
Super Dave

DavidV

You're allergic to wheat and you just found out now? What were your symptoms if I may ask?

Super Dave

Well, that's complicated.

I'll work backwards.  In January, my GP found that I had a nasal restriction on my right side.  I can't admit that I've recognized that for a long time, but I do know that I've had it for a shorter period.

Previous to that, in 1999, I had an ear infection.  In 2002, I had serious problems with my right ear...ringing, hearing, and balance.  That moderated by early 2003, but cycled up and down occasionally.  Never as bad as it was in 2002, which was really, really, really, really bad.

Is it all related?  Might be.  I went to my GP in January because I had a cold most of June through January.  Different than 2002, but some things were slightly similar.

Currently, my ringing is very, very light.  I had a couple little balance things happen at Brainerd this weekend, but I did have some french fries during lunch and a manufactured hashbrown patty...both of which I would suspect to be hit with a little flower to make them crispy.

It's all still really new to me yet.

My right nostril hasn't completely cleared from its restriction, but it has been clear occasionally.  And that's been kind of a unique experience thinking back.

I heard all this starts before you go ahrma racing. buy some clubs and head down here to fla you'll fit right in.    you sure you don't have a bad infection i was sick for months a couple of years ago kept going to the local clinic they blamed it on everything finally went to a real doc. turns out had strepp throat had me fixed in a couple of days . maybe you need to go to an ear nose and throat specialist. at least before you throw out the catsup bottle

Scotty Ryan

Allergies - oh boy don't get me started.... Just keep me out of the sun - don't feed me anything with soy - and keep the ripe fruit and veggies away.... There's more but I don't really feel like going thru it all.....  Come on' Dave - you really think i'm gonna buy this..... Fess up to everyone - Your really just covering up the fact that U R just trying to save your energy for the important stuff :)

Me too!  It can be very debilitating not to mention the incovenience of having to shop for foods (like bread for sandwich's) that dont contain wheat or yeast.

LOL!  I did a lot of AHRMA racing in the 90's...

The allergy clinic is part of my ENT's practice.  I haven't seen him yet after my test, and I have another test, that's just been rescheduled.

Thankfully, I don't live on catsup...  :)

Yeah, I kind of know what you're going through now.  It was amusing to watch, and I guess it's sort of amusing to do myself now.

Go down an isle of foods and say, "No."
Next isle, "No."

Super Dave

Ducmarc

think of the time you save shopping. i'm still hoping it's an infection for your sake   marc

Super Dave

I still have a wife and two kids, so that's not going to change.

Thanks for the nice thoughts on the infection.  I reacted to the first and second allergy tests.  Pretty much says that I have those allergies, so I'll just be learning more on the next test to see if I have others or something.
Super Dave

Ducmarc

oh no now you get to watch them eat ho ho's little debbies microwave burritos and everything else my kids eat and i'm not supposed to

Super Dave

I've done the low carb thing before, but it wasn't the easiest.  Actually, I was very good about it before I had dramatic stuff happening to my ears and all in 2002.  Now, I've got a reason to go back.  I responded really well to it then, so I think things will work out.

Another FYI, they have these awesome chocolate cherry cookies at the State Street outpost. Gluten free, made with rice flour.
Remember, you can still have pudding, just no pie...

Hey, stop messing with my gum tricks!

What I'll struggle with missing out on is cheesecake.
Super Dave

spyderchick

I'll find you a gluten free cheesecake recipe. Should'nt be a big deal. Real cheesecake shouldn't have flour in the filling, so it would be coming up with a suitable crust.  :thumb:

Right, but that doesn't deal with the cream cheese.  My yeast allergy leaves me affected by cheese, sour cream, anything that has vinegar component (catsup, mustard, BBQ sauce, Worshteshire sauce), alcohol, mayonayse, salad dressings, and some other stuff.  It's even in my best interest to stay away from peanuts and eating the skins of fruits because they can get molds/bacteria/yeast that can affect me.

Yesterday, I had some stereo hearing actually come back in my right ear.  I had been feeling a little strange lately, and I guess this is making sense in that my diet is allowing my body to recover a bit from all of this.

Honestly, this isn't so hard on me.  Harder on anyone that wants to go out to eat with me...LOL!  Only so many options for places that allow me options

Super Dave

Ducmarc

how 'bout key lime pie unless condensed milk is on the list.I guess you could use some kind of soy milk also.

Super Dave

LOL!  I'm actuallly quite happy with a good Nebraska steak.
Super Dave

I notice you didn't say "Omaha Steak".

Now school the public, brotha! :preachon:

Outpost has the best tenderloin. Better than restaurants. No lie. I think it gave Ed Key an orgasm.

The only other time I saw Ed look like that was when he was daydreaming about Ti and CF getting married and having little unobtaniums.   :lmao:

Yeah, I'll have to walk the plank.

And wouldn't you know, when I went to Brainerd, they build a LGS RIGHT OUTSIDE THE GATE!  I had an A&W cheeseburger...hold the bun, hold the cheese, catsup & mustard.

(I took a few hats though...   :spank:)
