I was debating on whether this thread belongs here or in wrenching
I figured I'd get more eyes-on by puttin it here.....

I have an '07 R1 that is destined for full-time race duty
Other than the stock ECU issues, I'm finding lots of horror stories on the internets mostly centered around the clutch.  (http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=204500)

I'm wondering how prevalent these problems are.
I'm still breaking the engine in (good info at mototuneusa.com) and the ECU issue is there (2nd gear roll-on lag @5500 rpm).
As far as the clutch problems  - are a couple people making a lot of noise, or are there extensive issues with this bike?

Its pretty much brand new - 75 mi
It feels much, much stronger than my 954
But I never had a problem with the Honda....

Lil' help?

Thanks,
Steve

I don't think guys racing R1's are at 5500 RPM's.

Certainly, it's an emmissions related issue in the bike, and a 954 didn't have the emmission standards that current bikes have.  If you're not governed by those specific issues, I think there are ways to "refuel" the bike to help it out.

I know the 06 R1 had a recall on the brakes as well as the R6. I heard a couple people say there was problems with th fly by wire on the 07 R1. But other then that nothing. Yamaha has always had a small dead spot but I think the fly by wire system was a fix for that.

And you really can beat a Honda for reliability.

fair enough on the 5.5k...
i know yamaha has a service bulletin out on the ecu and is replacing them, so i'm not too worried about that.

i'm hoping to get some insight from '07 r1 owners who have already made the leap to race bike

thanks

You might want to try and contact Jeff Wood runs ASRA, CCS & LRRS.  He's one of the few who has been racing the 07 R1.  Also talk to guys over at Graves Motorsport.
