No Supersport or Superstock at Mid-Ohio?

Is that right?

I was waiting for a release from the AMA stating that, but it looks like I'm finding that to be the case in a release from Dunlop.

SPEED had a little ticker going that said it would be postponed due to inclement weather.

It's amazing to me really. How does the "premier" racing series in America just cancel races and not even make them up.

I guess it's not the AMA's fault that half the tracks they visit aren't fit to race in the rain, but there had to be other options.

The track went green at 6:15 pm. Sunset was expected to be at 8:41pm. They had almost two and a half hours to get three races off. But they screwed around with the superbike warmup and ten minute tire break.

I have no idea why they didn't just cancel the warmups and shorten the races. They knew how much time they had, and what needed to be done, and they blew it. It's pretty sad....

Well, recognize that the AMA is not the promotor.  They sanction the event and put key people in positions for rules, etc.  The race track is the promotor, and they pay the AMA a sanctioning fee, the purse, and the opportunity to run an event that can make money for the race track.

Mid-Ohio bears responsibility for providing a reasonable facility and contingency plans.  A Monday plan should be mandatory for the well being of the promotor/track's continued opportunity to get spectators to come year after year after year.  Not sure why they couldn't figure that one out.  This has happened at VIR in 2003 and Daytona one year...they raced on a Monday when things couldn't get done on Sunday.  Might have happened at Infineon also one year.  And Pheonix in 1993 also, I think.

You've also got to factor in what some of the riders demanded too for on track time.

Regardless, no one won.  Sucks really bad for the fans.

And Mid-Ohio had this stuff last year in October.  Again, you'd think they'd have plans.  But they always seem to do funny things.  One year, the owner, lady was taking a client on a tour of the track in a car during the scheduled time of AMA 250 practice.  Needless to say, the riders were, well, angry would be an understatement.

Yeah, a monday plan would be ideal. Not real good for the fans, or the privateers who have to work monday, but at least it wouldn't affect the championship.

There may not have been a perfect solution, but I have to think that anything would be better than cancelling the races.

Hell if WE shorten races due to weather or alot of incedents, the natives start screaming to the warpath. Think the AMA guys are gonna say "Its all good" if they have to shorten warmup or the races?:lmao:

I guess you just had to be there to see the conditions. I don't know where you get your info but there was no screwing around with the superbike stuff and we rolled out on the track as soon as the last bike from superbike was off. The AMA did the best they could. I believe it was the track that wanted to get in at least the superbike on sunday so they would not have to refund any money. The way i see it the AMA did the best job they could. I am disappointed we didn't get to race but it was better than a bunch of guys crashing

It seems to me that the AMA, and the promoter, or whoever get bullied around an awful lot by the top riders.  These guys get paid a lot of money to go out there and put on a show for the fans.  I understand the riders safety committee making demands in the name of safer facilities, but the AMA is supposed to race in the rain if the track is a true road course, which Mid-Ohio is.  I understand extreme cases, but have you seen some of the conditions the World Superbike races, and even MotoGP have gone out in this year!!  These guys come off as a bunch of spoiled rotten 2 year olds when they try to modify the schedule in an effort to appease the fans.  The fans who paid their hard earned money to come see these guys race.  At the very least they could have run the races on Monday as a make up date.  After reading some of the quotes from Jamie Hacking in Roadracing World the last couple issues about how nobody comes to the track to see anybody but the top guys and how nobody cares where anyone else finishes, I could give a rat's a** less!!  I'd rather watch the CCS!! :thumb:

I think the track does looks a lot different when you're doing a 1:26 in Supersport vs something slower.

It is a professional event, and the fastest riders should be consulted as they know what it looks like when they come to a corner at their speed.

One can look at is as they are spoiled.  But the race track and the bike they are riding can be replaced.  Their lives and health to their team, family, and friends can't.

so four and six is saying that supersport rolled out after superbike but the race was unrideable? and does dunlop pay to have a press release or is that a free plug ?
