Yeah, so if you did 4 races a weekend for 5 race weekends you would have to average a 5th or 6th place or better finish in your class to total 400 points.  (4 races x 5 weekends = 20 races x 20 points each = 400 points)

....and YPSB is a Yellow Plated Sandbagger in case you didn't know.  Tends to be a frequent problem for SV and Buell riders for some reason....    right Kevin Clark?  :lmao:

AS a relatively new racer you will prob. have more fun racing the lightweight stuff on an SV based on your comments. Like has been said there are many classes to choose from on an SV and the grids are decent. On the Duc 749 you can only run the Supertwins and the middleweight stuff which would be a lot tougher. by the way where in MD are you moving to. I live in MD and my buddy Sean also lives in MD we both race SVs and Ducatis.

I am sure we will be pretty close, MD is about the side of Seattle!

I am moving to the Frederic area.  That is awesome you both race the two bikes that I am contemplating.  SV, air cooled Ducati, or the 749.  Here in WMRRA there is a good group of Duc's to ride with.

It seems to be I should be on the lookout for a 05+ SV650 or a 1000DS supersport!  I just got word today the 749 estimate is going to total it for sure.  Now, do I take the money and run, or do I take less money and race prep it?

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Take less money keep the bike and either race prep it or Ebay it you will prob. come out ahead that way.

You could also consider a RC51, SV1000, 999 or Aprilla. I gotta admit I am truly enjoying my RC and I'm also a big boy (275lbs with out gear.)

You're a big boy, get a big bike with torque.

Ducmarc

here in fla the ds 1000 is almost unbeatable in lightweight almost all the sv guys have switched. I love my 748 for tbike and lightweight 40 i would love to run a 749 but it's only legal for middle weight and you have to be smok'in fast to do any good with it they are competive in moto st but that's another story don't forget about ducati money with the duel spark.if your an expert.

If you're still a novice get an SV, they are plenty competitive in the LW classes (as Arnie well knows).  There are plenty of "big guys" riding SVs and other LW bikes.  Other than Daytona, the tracks out here are fine for being down a little on power.  After learning the tracks/moving up to expert, you can decide whether to spend some $$ on an SV engine, or move to an air cooled Duc or Buell if you want to stay LW.

I wouldn't race the 749.  A 999 would be more competitive in the HW classes than a 749 is in MW.
